Our Founder, Leymah Gbowee, received an Honorary Degree from Georgetown University in recognition of her role in ending the Second Liberian Civil War. Ms. Gbowee, who received a Doctor of Humane Letters, delivered a speech on what peace means to her. In the speech, she said, “Peace is equality, access to education. Peace demands sacrifice so everyone irrespective of their perceived value has the chance to be the best that they can be” Read coverage of the event here: https://lnkd.in/eRxSVVcg

Dear Gail Thornton, thank you so much for your continued support to the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa-USA and Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa. It's been a pleasure working with the Seton Hall University interns under your leadership.
It was my honor and privilege to introduce Nobel Peace Laureate #LeymahRGbowee during our World Leaders Forum at Seton Hall School of Diplomacy and International Relations to a standing-room only audience of students, faculty and other guests of the University. The event was livestreamed and recorded. Leymah, a Liberian peace activist, social worker and women's rights advocate, continues to be an unstoppable force in the world -- and is an international leader who changed history with her humanity. My nine-year friendship with Leymah involved working with 15 Seton Hall interns as they learned real-world communications and public relations skills while helping get the word out about the impact and value of her work in providing educational and leadership opportunities for women, girls and youth in West Africa. Leymah continues to ensure that younger generations in Liberia can lead peaceful and empowered lives -- and have access to quality education and are seen as valuable members of society. Her goal is to have young people be peace advocates, peer educators on health and human rights and leaders in their communities and schools. Thank you to all the Seton Hall interns who left their mark on the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa-USA over the past years. Each and everyone of you have had a powerful influence: Shaye Ciccarone, Anna Fagan, Maheen Khan, Chase Cohen, Leslie Belalcazar, Joseph Gessner, Ozan Nampha, Audra DeCataldo, Emily Nix, @AlexandraPeach, @GrantSmith, @ClareDuda Courtney Smith, Richard Gannon, Catherine Ruby Francine Nabintu Katia Passerini Sarah Jewell
