Grad Bag is a 501c3 org. that collects, cleans, and distributes dorm supplies to first generation college students.

About us

Grad Bag is a green 501 (c) 3 organization that reuses college dorm supplies. We collect and redistribute lightly-used dorm room items that too often end up in landfills and give them to first generation college freshmen. Sustainability groups at partner colleges and universities organize collections of dorm supplies from outgoing students and we come in and scoop it all up. Then we clean, refurbish, and package all the items so they are as good as new. Now for the fun part. In early August before incoming freshmen head off to school, we set up a "pop-up shop" where we give it all away to low-income students. We currently partner with Barnard College, Columbia University, Fordham University, Pace University- NYC and Pleasantville campuses, Sarah Lawrence College, Princeton, Vassar College, SUNY Purchase and Wesleyan University in the New York area. In 2015, we started a Boston branch of Grad Bag and partner with Babson College, Olin College, and Wellesley College, The University of Massachusetts Lowell and Brandeis University. Currently we partner with Let's Get Ready, The Wily Network, Transitioning Together, The Epiphany School in Boston, and Yonkers Partners in Education and set up our shops during their transition day workshops.

While classes are just beginning for many students, Grad Bag is ready to give its summer session report card! This summer, we were able to divert ♻️ 21 TONS of material from landfills! Those items were distributed to 📚 700 STUDENTS heading to college this semester. Grad Bag is so honored to have had the support of local colleges and universities, businesses, transportation and storage companies, laundry facilities, location partners, and businesses. Their support and financial contributions from donors like you help make our mission possible.
