About us

Grand Banks is an award-winning oyster bar aboard the historic wooden schooner, Sherman Zwicker. Inspired by the floating "oyster barges" that lined Manhattan's waterfront in the 18th and 19th centuries, Grand Banks serves up sustainably harvested oysters, nautically inspired cocktails, and awe-inspiring views. As a partnership between the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Maritime Foundation and the hospitality group Summer Inc., Grand Banks generates funds to support maritime conservation, education, and preservation. Since 2014, Grand Banks has generated over $100,000 to preserve at-risk historic vessels, to restore healthy rivers, and to develop oyster habitats in New York Harbor. In 2014, Grand Banks was named Best Outdoor Dining in NYC by the Village Voice, and earned the top positions on both Grub Street's Power Rankings of NYC Restaurants and Eater’s NYC Restaurant Heat Map. The New York Times published seven feature articles about Grand Banks, naming it both a summer and Fashion Week, “Must Do.” The New Yorker and Forbes praised its sustainable seafood practices. The San Francisco Chronicle dubbed it “Wildly Popular,” and Vanity Fair described the endeavor as a “Rare Feat.” Bon Appetit deemed Grand Banks the “Best Way to Start the Weekend,” Grub Street devoted a full article to its “Irresistible” lobster roll, and Time Out included Grand Banks on their list of “New York’s 100 Best Dishes of 2014.” Most recently, Grand Banks graced the cover of Imbibe’s influencer issue; was prominently featured in the Travel Channel’s new mini-series, Metropolis; and was named “Best Oyster Bar in NYC” by The New York Observer.
