One life, one legacy. Chenoa's memory lives through every rescue. On August 22, 2024, Chenoa Nickerson was swept into the Colorado River while hiking near Havasu Creek and Colorado River Confluence. After three days of an extensive search and rescue effort spearheaded by the Grand Canyon National Park Service, Chenoa was found deceased. Deeply inspired by the actions of the Search and Rescue (SAR) team, her family members established a fund to support the Grand Canyon SAR Program in memory of Chenoa’s bright spirit and passion for helping others. “Chenoa unapologetically traveled the world, sharing her joy and infectious smile with everyone she met, she truly did not know a stranger.... We are committed to honoring her memory and continuing the legacy of warmth and kindness she embodied. We believe that by helping others we can create a positive ripple effect, inspiring those around us to do the same.” Comprised of highly trained professionals, the SAR team responds to emergencies ranging from lost hikers and medical incidents to accidents caused by the park’s rugged terrain and unpredictable weather. Your support of this program directly funds updated equipment, specialized training, and supportive programs for first responders. Time travel at Grand Canyon National Park? Find yourself stressing over the time? Don't worry! Arizona is in Mountain Standard Time (MST) year-round, but until November 3, we're in sync with California (yep, Pacific Time pals for a bit!). While the rest of the country is busy ‘falling back’ and messing with their clocks, we’re just chillin’. After November 3, we still stay on MST (Arizona doesn't change!) and be an hour ahead of California through the winter until March 9! #TimeTravel #GrandCanyon #WhatTimeIsIT

What you leave behind matters more than you think. You can protect the Grand Canyon's beauty long after you're gone. Your legacy can make a difference. By including Grand Canyon Conservancy in your will or setting up another type of planned gift, you can become a lifetime member of our Bright Angel Circle. Most of our supporters choose to remember us in their wills or living trusts, but there are plenty of other ways to make a planned gift that can benefit both you and your family. This could even include gifts of property beyond just money. No matter how you choose to give, the biggest reward is knowing that your contribution will help preserve Grand Canyon's natural and cultural wonders for future generations. Your support inspires park champions to cherish and protect this incredible place. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gmTKUjKF 📷 GCC: L/Cisneros

👋 FREE Virtual Book Club Event! 🚨 TONIGHT - October 3 at 5pm MST with Kevin Fedarko - author of A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon. This event will be moderated by Rich Rudow, a Grand Canyon Conservancy board member who helped advise Fedarko and McBride throughout their journey and even joined to help the two friends complete one of the most challenging sections of their thru-hike. Rich will be asking Kevin questions submitted by our live audience, as well as a few of his own. From the author of the beloved bestseller The Emerald Mile, A Walk in the Park is a rollicking and poignant account of an epic 750-mile odyssey, on foot, through the heart of America’s most magnificent national park and the grandest wilderness on earth. The tale narrates the odyssey Fedarko and his best friend Pete McBride undertook to transect the entire length of the Grand Canyon, a feat billed by the handful of experts who have managed to complete it as “the toughest hike in the world.” Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gFJjE_nY While we encourage reading the book before the event, it is not required. A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon is available for purchase at GCC's retail locations and online via our Park Store.
