#TuesdayTip Perhaps the most common issue we hear during conversations with fundraising executives across the nation is the multifaceted challenge of staffing. Understanding the key underlying issues, and more importantly, identifying strategies to address them, is paramount to grant funding sustainability and growth. Our latest blog dives into the nuanced difficulties healthcare organizations encounter, from the scarcity of industry-specific experience to the ever-growing gap in salary expectations and the hurdles in mentorship. While the article is tailored to healthcare, many of the core challenges resonate across the nonprofit landscape. Amidst these challenges, the solution may lie beyond internal efforts. Grant Professional who helps clients strategically navigate the often rocky and sometimes mysterious terrain of grantseeking. In the "off" hours I'm a running and yoga enthusiast, avid reader, and "fiber arts" dabbler.
Fun fact: This is how I started my relationship with Grants Plus. Even if you plan to maintain your current status with your employer or as an independent consultant, this is a great opportunity to work with some wonderful people on a variety of projects.

Yesterday, Matt Carter, Senior Advisor at Grants Plus, had the opportunity to meet with a group of innovators driving change in the nonprofit sector of Kazakhstan. In a workshop designed to foster global unity and shared expertise, we explored the foundational pillars of institutional fundraising, alongside strategic approaches to sustaining meaningful relationships with funders. Despite our diverse backgrounds and geographic locations, our missions share a common thread: the unwavering commitment to make a substantive, positive impact in our communities and beyond. Special thanks to the Cleveland Council on World Affairs for their exemplary role in orchestrating this event, bridging distances, and knitting together like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to advancing philanthropic causes.

#TuesdayTip 💡 When it comes to grant funding, relationships matter -- we have the data to prove it ⬇️ In a proprietary analysis of 658 grant proposals submitted between Oct. 2022 and Oct. 2024, Grants Plus found that proposals where the applicant did cultivate a relationship with the funder resulted in a 26% higher win rate compared to those where no relationship cultivation was attempted. It’s interesting to see how workplace dynamics continue to shift—and how they vary so widely across companies. It’s disheartening when a rigid office policy is applied without regard for individual performance or different working styles. At Grants Plus, we strive to recognize each employee’s unique contributions and focus on outcomes rather than work location. As Bryan Driscoll notes, "Remote work has been proven to be effective time and time again, with studies showing increased productivity, improved employee satisfaction and broader access to talent." This has been our experience as well. Yes, businesses can set the rules they believe will drive success, but fostering an environment that trusts and values employees’ productivity—whether in-office or remote—is invaluable. Here’s to workplaces that embrace flexibility, trust, and commitment to their people as well as their goals. #GrantWriting #FlexibleWork #EmployeeWellbeing #CompanyCulture #RemoteWork #EmpoweredEmployees #NonprofitWork #ModernWorkplace #FutureOfWork

#TuesdayTip Remember that winning grant funding isn’t the end, but rather the beginning of a process that’s just as important to the future of your organization – effective grant management. Beyond mastering the essentials, consider these additional grant management practices to distinguish your organization: • Actively Track Your Grant History: Developing a robust record of past grant management efforts enriches your team's knowledge and preparation for future grants. • Eliminate Internal Silos: Ensure seamless communication and collaboration across departments for a unified grant management strategy. • Invest in the Right Tools: Utilizing dedicated software for tracking and managing grants can streamline processes and enhance efficiency. • Organize from the Start: An organized approach from the initial stages of grant seeking can significantly benefit the management phase, making the journey from award to impact both seamless and successful. Last week, during our company retreat, we embraced an opportunity not just to retreat from our daily tasks but to advance towards a core tenet of our mission: making a tangible difference in the communities we serve. Our team had the privilege of lending our time, skills, and hearts to several local nonprofits, including the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. In these engagements, we're reminded of the profound impact hands-on service has—not just on the communities we aim to uplift but on us, as professionals and humans. Through sorting donations, preparing meals, and directly serving those in need, we connected with the very essence of why we do what we do. Our work as grant writers, institutional fundraising advisors, and philanthropic advocates goes beyond the confines of office walls and digital screens; it's about touching lives, addressing urgent needs, and fostering lasting change. #CommunityService #NonprofitImpact #SocialResponsibility #Teamwork #MakingADifference

The final part of our insider #TuesdayTip series for experienced fundraisers highlights infrastructure investments, reporting transparency, leadership innovation, and resiliency: Part 3 of 3: 7. Invest in capacity and infrastructure Funders are looking for organizations that can scale impact efficiently, manage risks, and evolve with the sector. 8. Prioritize transparency and adaptability in reporting Rather than simply adhering to metrics, embrace a reporting process that is responsive to the evolving nature of your programs and outcomes. 9. Showcase innovation in every aspect of your leadership As a strategic leader, it’s crucial to show how your organization is continually evolving, whether that means refining existing programs, adopting new technologies, or exploring fresh approaches to community engagement. 10. Resilience is the new benchmark Even when proposals don’t directly ask about these factors, weave in highlights about your organization’s risk management strategies, adaptability, and financial health by showcasing examples of how you’ve navigated past challenges or evolved in response to external changes.
