Hey folks, it's time for our 11th Pretzel Day! This month, we're not merely indulging in those delicious carbs and listening to speakers from our community. Oh no, we're also recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month! So, after you've filled your plate with pretzels, stick around for a presentation from our friends at BNIM, and then wrap up your lunch break with a guided meditation session hosted by the Gravitate Crew! MAY EVENTS Reading Party - Next One Coming This Fall!! First off, a huge thank you to everyone who joined our first reading party on May 3rd! We're already planning another one for the fall, so keep your eyes peeled for more details coming this summer! Pretzel Day with BNIM Speakers & Guided Meditation - May 21 Join us over lunch for an enlightening session with two amazing speakers from BNIM. Then, in line with our mental health awareness initiative this month, we'll also be hosting a calming guided meditation after our speakers. It's the perfect midday break to recharge your mind! Midtown Charcuterie Potluck - May 23 Ever wanted to explore Midtown? What better way than with delicious food as an incentive! Come along on May 23rd for our charcuterie potluck. It's a fantastic opportunity to taste amazing bites and mingle with fellow community members. Don’t miss out on this tasty tradition! Wine Potluck - May 30 We're taking our EV Wine Potluck to our Downtown location this month, and it's not just any potluck—it's also a double birthday celebration for two of our beloved community managers! Bring your favorite bottle of wine, put on a silly hat (we'll provide these!), and let’s party! This event is open to all, so feel free to bring a friend along.

A Quiet Night Out with Gravitate and Storyhouse Bookpub Where: Gravitate / Storyhouse 505 E Grand Ave Des Moines When: Friday, May 3rd from 5-8pm (First Friday for Historic East Village) Who: All ages! Bring friends, family, kids, grandparents - everyone is welcome, whether or not they're a Gravitate member. What to Expect: May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we're opening up our space for a fun, relaxing night out for everyone! Come celebrate First Fridays in the Historic East Village! Hang out in one of our cozy spaces, enjoy a refreshing mocktail, get creative with crafts, and lose yourself in a good book. Don't know what to read? Head downstairs to Storyhouse Bookpub and let their knowledgeable staff help you find your next great literary companion. Storyhouse will also be where the crafting materials are, so you can grab items to create your own personalized vision board that inspires and motivates you! This event is all about taking a break, connecting with your community, and nurturing your mind and spirit. Earth is SO VERY COOL, with diverse ecosystems, unique wildlife, awe-inspiring natural wonders, and coffee... Wonderful Delicious Coffee!! However, it's also facing many challenges, including climate change, habitat loss, and pollution. So, how can we be kind to our planet? This not only supports local wildlife, but also helps to reduce the use of pesticides and herbicides. 🚴 Bike, walk, or skate instead of driving when you can. This not only reduces your carbon footprint, but also improves your health and well-being. 🚘 Skip the ethanol at the pump. While it may seem like a "green" option, the energy return on investment is less than regular gasoline. 🧰 Keep what you have. Don't replace things that aren't broken! If something breaks, try to repair it or recycle it. This not only reduces waste, but also saves resources and energy. 🗳️ Vote for representatives that support conservation efforts & climate policy. This is one of the most powerful ways to make a difference on a larger scale. 💰 Buy local! Invest in high quality clothing and goods made in the US instead of putting money into fast fashion. This not only supports local businesses and workers, but also reduces the carbon footprint of your purchases. Remember, being kind to the planet doesn't have to be a daunting task, there are plenty of choices you make everyday that can contribute to helping our Earth.

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a quick heads up about our upcoming Pretzel Day celebration this Thursday, April 18th at noon. We've got a couple really interesting speakers lined up that I think you'll enjoy. First up is Cory - he's an aviation engineer, but not one you've probably heard of before. And then we've got Stacey (me, the person writing this post) I'm going to talk about 5 cool places to visit that aren't super well-known in Iowa! Of course, the real star of the show will be the pretzels!! We'll have plenty to go around, so bring your pretzel-loving friends and come hang out with us. It's always a laid-back, fun time. What an incredible day! Gravitate community members across our three locations gathered together to witness the stunning solar eclipse that swept across the skies. We donned our special eclipse glasses, some climbed onto roofs, and we were lucky to experience this celestial event together. Be right back... making plans for the next total solar eclipse visible from North America, which won't happen until 2045!
