Will lower inflation expectations and increasing stress around debt payments motivate the Fed to continue its path toward lower interest rates? Inflation expectations haven't really changed since late 2023, but at 3%, they remain higher than actual 2.4% inflation numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That being said, for both the NY Fed's data and the data from the University of Michigan, pre-pandemic inflation expectations hovered around 3%, even when actual inflation was consistently lower.
