What an experience for GMH - being part of the first Home Base Brain Health Summit. At this summit, there was an exchange of ideas focused on interventions for the healthy minds and bodies of veterans and their families. The sessions were engaging, and as the speakers shared their insights, a talented illustrator captured it all in real-time, turning the discussions into creative visuals. Thank you Home Base, the American Psychiatric Association Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project. We are better, together.

𝐈𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: The trauma of 9/11 left deep emotional and psychological scars, not only for those directly affected but for an entire nation. Studies found that PTSD was the most common health effect of 9/11. Up to 20% of adults directly exposed to the disaster or injured in the attack had PTSD symptoms 5-6 years after the attack - four times the rate in the general population. Those who repeatedly witnessed the events on television and in newspapers were at greater risk of developing long-term psychological challenges. On this day, we honor the lives lost and the resilience of a nation. #NeverForget #911Day

At GMH we believe that mental health is as vital as physical health. Despite advancements, barriers to accessing mental health care persist – even for insured Americans. We applaud efforts aimed at making mental health care as accessible as physical health care. Check out Lev Facher’s latest piece via STAT: https://lnkd.in/d6ScbjH9

"Even if you've accumulated a house full of nice things, and the picture of your life fits inside a beautiful frame, if you have experienced trauma but haven't excavated it, the wounded parts of you will affect everything you've managed to build." ~ Oprah Winfrey If this quote speaks to you, you are not alone.
