A group of our physical therapists spent this past weekend with Great Lakes Seminars learning the latest and greatest about Myofascial Release! ✨ They learned how the muscles and fascia create dysfunction in the body, increasing stress and causing symptoms that become common diagnoses we treat daily. They are excited to incorporate these new skills into their daily treatments in the clinic 😁 #lifelonglearner #continuingeducation #physicaltherapy

Let's wrap up the week with our final myth buster!👀 🚫 MYTH #5: Physical therapy is going to fix me Your PT will give you the tools to help shape your recovery and will perform a mix of techniques that will help accelerate your progress, however, YOU are ultimately the one responsible for making the progress! Patients who have an active role in their therapy (and do their home exercise program!) tend to recover faster, and those who continue to do their exercises aftercare are less likely to come back for the same pain or musculoskeletal injury! If you don’t actively do your homework… your PT will know!🧐 #PhysicalTherapy #PTEducation #PTMyth

We are back to clear up some more common PT myths!👀 🚫 MYTH #4: Physical therapy is only for bone and muscle problems False! PT actually traces its roots in the care of burn victims and you can often see a PT involved in treatment plans for individuals with chronic wounds. PTs also treat patients for a myriad of neurological, cardiac, and pelvic health disorders! There are clinical specialties in the above-mentioned fields where PTs work in tandem with care delivered by a specialty-care physician.💪 #PhysicalTherapy #PTEducation #PTMyth

This week we are clearing up some common physical therapy myths!👀 🚫 MYTH #3: PT only works if I’m injured, and I will need a referral False! PT can be implemented before an injury happens! Depending on your state practice acts, a PT can be seen without a referral from your physician (known as direct access)… which can make physical therapy the first stop in making sure that you have good mechanics during an activity. 💪 Reach out to your local PT to see if your region has direct access to their services without needing a visit to your physician; your PT will happily help you with the next steps if they do need a referral. #PhysicalTherapy #PTEducation #PTMyth

Let's clear up some more common physical therapy myths! 🚫 MYTH #2: Physical therapy is only for "older" people False! PT benefits people of all ages, there is even a clinical specialty that works with only pediatric patients! Your therapist will tailor a treatment plan to your age, ensuring appropriate exercise intensity. Depending on your condition, PT may be brief, with exercises related to your hobbies or sports. A growing trend in the industry is sports-based specialty clinics! These clinics work on improving an individual’s participation in the weight room and you will easily find that they focus on resistance training and sports performance techniques to help accelerate your progress during your training cycle if you’re an avid athlete. #PhysicalTherapy #PTMyth #PTEducation

This week we are going to clear up some common myths that we've heard about physical therapy!👀 🚫 MYTH #1: Physical therapy is going to hurt and they will work me too hard False! While some discomfort is normal, therapists have various tools and non-pharmacological aids to minimize pain during treatment. Your PT is not going to be a drill sergeant! Their goal is to gently reintroduce normal movement patterns back into your life. Although they will sometimes push you a little bit if needed… the focus is always to remain therapeutic and to reduce your pain and discomfort while improving your function! 💪 To learn more, check out our latest blog post! https://lnkd.in/gvDPChWJ #PhysicalTherapy #PTMyths #PTEducation

This precision will illuminate your treatment path! 3️⃣ Master Special Tests: Arm yourself with a comprehensive toolkit of special tests for every body area. These are your secret weapons for accurate assessments! 4️⃣ Test-Treat-Retest Approach: Using this approach allows you to identify which aspects of the treatment are most effective and which ones are less helpful.
