GBLS helps its clients navigate the complex maze of laws and regulations, enabling them to obtain the basic necessities of life. GBLS annually provides assistance to over 10,000 people who live at or below 125% of the federal poverty standard ($30,750 for a family of 4).

This is a Staff Attorney position that mainly involves representing clients who seek access to state shelter benefits, who face termination of shelter benefits, or those seeking accommodation of disability-related needs or other rights within the state shelter system.

Greater Boston Legal Services seeks a senior attorney with 6-10 years of experience for a permanent position in the Elder, Health and Disability Unit (“EHD”). The senior attorney's responsibilities will be running the Elder Unit Project. This will include supervising other attorneys and paralegals, and some grant reporting. This will also include assisting elders with a full range of housing, and state and federal public health and income benefits work. The housing work will include representing elder tenants facing eviction in local district and housing courts and may include representing individual tenants facing Section 8 terminations. The senior attorney will also handle hearings on denials and terminations of SNAP, EAEDC, and MassHealth. The responsibilities may involve administrative advocacy and legislative work on housing or public benefits issues as well as supervision of students and new attorneys as appropriate.

GBLS seeks a full-time staff attorney to join our Immigration Law Unit (ILU). The ILU represents clients in removal defense, defensive and affirmative asylum claims, special immigrant juvenile status petitions, VAWA self-petitions, "U" and "T" visas, and other immigration matters before the USCIS and EOIR. GBLS provides free legal services and representation to clients in the greater Boston area who cannot afford private legal representation.
