It will be hard to capture the awesome whirlwind of yesterday in a post but I’ll try. Here’s why #DSMUSA is 🔥 Started off the morning celebrating the great new space of Camlin Fine Sciences (CFS) in City of Urbandale. We met with the CEO of Camlin (an India based company) while on the Trade Mission we just returned from and Governor Kim Reynolds promised she would be at the ribbon cutting. She delivered on that promise. Congratulations to Jennifer Igou Stephanie Wilson and the rest of the fine folks at Camlin Fine Sciences (CFS) and thank you for choosing #DSMUSA as the place to grow your North American operations. Great to see Curtis Brown Aaron DeJong Allen Williams Following that I had an inspiring lunch with Dr. Rachelle (Karstens) Keck. Lots of fun things in the works from Dr. Keck as well as Grand View University. Stay tuned. She doesn’t seem to ever tire and after one lunch with her I didn’t need any caffeine the rest of the day. Following lunch I headed up to the Capitol and was honored to be part of the Governor’s Press Conference on our recent Trade Mission to India. Privileged to get an opportunity to speak on the experience as well as highlight the importance of trips such as this towards our economic development recruitment efforts. Our pipeline of projects in #DSMUSA is as strong as it has been in years and this will only help build that pipeline for years to come ensuring the combined success of Iowa and Greater Des Moines. Thank you to Governor Kim Reynolds Secretary Mike Naig and Director Debi Durham for your leadership and the opportunity to be part of an awesome delegation. So great to reconnect with Kavilash Chawla Pat McGonegle Travis Schwartz Peter Tokar III, MBA, MEDP Mike Anderson Stu Swanson Thomas Dixon Patrick Tomka Kanan Kappelman and Amber Rodgers Rushed from the Press Conference to the JEDCO/Chamber Economic Development Bus Tour of the City of Johnston, Iowa. Had an awesome tour guide - Joshua L.. Got to hang with Daniel Fitzgerald, MBA Creighton Cox Maria Davis Jayne Armstrong Stacie LoVan Tiffany Coleman Jackie Johansen, MBA and so many others. Hey, all in a days work. 😉 Wait till I tell you about the Greater Des Moines Partnership Regional Summit and Economic Impact Awards I’m at today. A day like yesterday highlights the amazing things going on in our region on a daily basis. The future is bright and I’m proud to serve the communities in #DSMUSA and the State of Iowa.

CEO, Board Director, Author. I write about leadership and organizational transformation, culture and governance.
What activities help you manage stress? Research shows that having outside activities and hobbies can have a measurable impact on your health, resilience and ability to cope with change or pressure -- all which are critical to your effectiveness as a leader. I turned to local leaders and asked them why they think it is so important for leaders to prioritize “extracurricular” coping strategies to help maintain balance – and to share examples of a strategy that they are working on. Here is what Juan Pablo Sanchez, director of inclusive business strategies at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, had to say: "Focusing on coping strategies has been crucial for maintaining balance in my life, providing relief from daily pressures and averting burnout. Early in my career, as a naval officer, I discovered that engaging in activities beyond work duties is vital for building resilience and readiness for new missions. Today, in a completely different role, advancing small businesses in the Greater Des Moines region, this principle continues to hold true. Regular physical exercise seems to be the most effective strategy; it not only enhances physical health but also sharpens mental clarity. Personally, I find that taking time for recreational pursuits, like golfing or fishing, helps me manage pressure. These activities provide a mental escape and foster a sense of accomplishment. Incorporating such strategies in my routine helps me maintain equilibrium, ensuring that I remain productive and prepared for any challenge that comes my way." You can read the whole Des Moines Business Record article here: https://bit.ly/3TOCIz1. Stay tuned for more insights from Brad Schoenfelder, Juan Pablo Sanchez and Teri Wahlig, MD, MBA. #healthyleaders #healthyCEO #culture #workplacebalance #mindfulleadership
