A regional approach to economic development is important, but that approach extends beyond our counties' boundaries. We loved gathering with our great partners from across Central Illinois today at Distillery Labs. Together we are all stronger.
It was great to host my friends and colleagues for a much-needed gathering Distillery Labs today. For the past few years, our informal Mid-State Collaborative (https://lnkd.in/gej3jxTS) have partnered to share resources and information and showcase the power and attractiveness of Central Illinois. And these leaders are simply the best. Thank you to Patrick Hoban, Carly McCrory-McKay, Brian Moody, Nicole Bateman and Ryan McCrady for driving to Peoria and for all the great work you do for your communities.

Advancing Greater Peoria’s Economic Development through Strategic Infrastructure Investment We’re excited to share that the METROPOLITAN AIRPORT AUTHORITY OF PEORIA (MAAP) has secured an additional $13.51 million grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminal Program for the new control tower at General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport. This brings the total federal funding to $43.51 million, significantly closing the gap toward fully funding this pivotal project. Gene Olson, MAAP’s Director of Airports, stated: “We’re now within reach of having this project fully funded. The timing of the grant coming right after our groundbreaking on Monday is perfect and gives us confidence that we’ll see this project completed in a timely fashion.” The new 146-foot tower will meet all FAA requirements and enhance operational efficiency, safety, and accessibility. More importantly, it’s a substantial investment in our region’s economic development—creating jobs, stimulating local businesses, and improving critical infrastructure. This milestone reflects the positive impact of federal investment and collaborative efforts in driving regional growth and prosperity.
