Last week, Preservation Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission unveiled a historical marker for late Pittsburgh-based photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris outside of his former home in Homewood. Teenie, who passed away in 1998 at the age of 89, was internationally known for his work documenting Black life and culture in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, the house where he lived for 65 years is slated to be included in a sheriff’s sale on October 7. The new historical marker is an important homage to the late photographer outside his former home. 📣 Arts and Culture Leaders in Western Pennsylvania: There are only a few days left for your organization to participate in PA CultureCheck, the annual statewide study by PA Humanities, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. With your help, we have the opportunity to identify key trends in critical areas like post-pandemic recovery and regrowth, operations, attendance, and the ways organizations are engaging with their communities. The deadline to complete the survey is this Monday, September 30. Participating in this anonymous survey is easy and only takes about 25 minutes to complete.

Congratulations to Pittsburgh's Creative Citizen Studios! Their team works with artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities to make, exhibit, and sell their work. They also provide weekly art classes, workshops, and exhibit opportunities to help promote artists while connecting them with a larger community. Creative Citizen Studios' ArtsHere grant will support the expansion of the organization's initiatives and programs to meet the increasing community need.
