  • GREAT NEWS AND NEW MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT DATELINE: October 1, 2024 GSLAC and EIU form an educational partnership to benefit Scouting stakeholders Greater St. Louis Area Council CEO Joe Sadewasser and EIU President Jay Gatrell are joined by Scouts from Charleston Troop 141 to celebrate signing a new partnership between Eastern Illinois University and the Greater St. Louis Area Council Scouting. The partnership will benefit Scouts, volunteers, and Greater St. Louis Area Council employees by creating direct pathways for enrollment in EIU programs. This will ensure student success on campus that leads to a degree. Research shows that Scouts are twice as likely to earn a bachelor’s degree as their peers and twice as likely to complete a master’s degree compared to the national average. Components of the agreement include positioning EIU’s Career Services Department as a talent acquisition hub for Scouting-affiliated students at EIU who wish to pursue internships or careers within the broader Scouting organization and up to $4,000 in annual renewable scholarships for four years for GPA-eligible student participants. More to come!

  • Earlier this month, BSA First Class Louis M. (Gravois Trail) was presented the Public Safety Civilian Partnership Award by Missouri Governor Mike Parson for courageous assistance to first responders in 2023. When his father and brother fell 80 feet off a bluff at Washington State Park during a camping trip, Louis reacted quickly. He immediately sprinted to the trailhead to find find a park ranger and lead them to the scene, providing highly-detailed information that made evacuation easier and faster. Louis was nominated by Missouri State Park Rangers. "Despite the trauma of witnessing his father and brother fall from the bluff, Louis immediately went for help, provided complete and accurate information to rangers, remained calm throughout the ordeal, and continued to share helpful information with first responders." Congrats to Louis M. on this stellar recognition and being an example for all Scouts! #ICanDoThat #ScoutsBSA

  • Eagle Scouts are a symbol of dedication, leadership and community commitment, and one embodied all three ideals for their project in a generational reverence space ⛪ Ian P. – Gravois Trail, Troop 824 – is a 4th-generation member of @St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Oakville. A church room designed for social gatherings in the 1990s had become a storage space over time. Ian led a team of Scouts and Youth Group members to renovate this room and restore its original purpose. Together, Ian and his team created a fresh space to accommodate a growing Youth Group community. The team added: 🗒️ a prayer and communication board ♟️ a gameboard table 🖼️ a mural 🎨 a fresh coat of paint Congratulations Ian on earning the rank of Eagle Scout! 🦅 #EagleScout #ICanDoThat #ScoutsBSA

  • Cultivating a positive environment for diversity, equity and inclusion is a core strength for today's leaders, and Scouting is instrumental in setting that foundation. Scouts learn from required badges like Citizenship in Society how to navigate diverse backgrounds and viewpoints, often differing from their own, to make ethical decisions. This badge guides Scouts through: 🤝 helping others different from them 🎤 interviewing local community leaders 👂 active listening & valuing others' input 🙌 celebrating individuality and combating stereotypes Learn more about leadership opportunities 👉 https://loom.ly/K1HKvHM #ICanDoThat #leadership #Scouts #business #community #diversity
