Driven CEO with over two decades of success in guiding companies, organizations and industries through transformational change.
I had the enlightening opportunity to moderate a panel at the Atlas of AI Summit on "The Power of Place: Growing Economies Through Innovation." This event, made possible through partnerships with industry leaders like Virginia Tech and Capital One, brought together visionaries to explore our region's unique role in the AI landscape. Inspired by U.S. Senator Mark Warner's bold vision and charge, we delved into how AI is revolutionizing regional economies. Young Bang from the US Army highlighted leveraging DC's assets for national security. Intel Corporation's Lama Nachman shared their collaborative vision for emerging technologies, while Pfizer's Subha Madhavan discussed AI-driven health R&D enhancing U.S. competitiveness. Key themes included: 1. AI applications transforming defense, healthcare, and human-AI collaboration 2. The critical role of place-based strategies in nurturing AI ecosystems 3. Synergy between industry, academia, and government in driving innovation 4. Navigating ethical considerations in AI development This summit marks a significant step in positioning our region as a pivotal force in AI. As we continue to harness the power of place, it's clear that collaboration will shape our technological future. Thank you to Virginia Tech and Capital One for hosting this incredibly timely and important conversation, and to our esteemed panelists for their invaluable insights. #AtlasofAISummit #AIInnovation #RegionalGrowth Greater Washington Partnership Tim Sands

President and CEO, The Annie E. Casey Foundation | Board Director | Strategist | Social Innovator | Thought Leader
Thanks to McKinsey & Company for inviting me a networking reception to learn more about a recent report from its Institute for Black Economic Mobility called The State of Black Residents. https://https://lnkd.in/eAUmZjNK The findings in its new report on the relevance of place to racial equity and outcomes is a must read and mirrors all of the Annie E. Casey Foundation's conclusions in reports like Changing the Odds in Atlanta released earlier this year. I love that the report is grounded in common aspirations for all people like financial stability; opportunities to develop skills through affordable, quality education; and stable and secure homes. These are about more than surviving; they define what it takes for an individual or a family to thrive. Their conclusion: Virtually nowhere in the nation are outcomes for Black residents on a par with those of their White neighbors. And with no increased progress, it will take between 110-320 years to achieve racial parity on all of the metrics they developed. They note a range of solutions are required and focus on affordable housing and child care as two places of high importance. We will continue to follow and act on this research and welcome the business community's engagement given the employee and economic impact of this critical issue.

Founder, Chairman, Managing Partner, and CEO, Monumental Sports & Entertainment; Co-Founder, Revolution Growth; Chairman, DC College Access Program
The Washington Mystics capped off the season last night with a thrilling win against the Indiana Fever at Capital One Arena. The game also set an ALL-TIME LEAGUE RECORD in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) for single-game attendance, with 20,711 total fans. Incredible. Last night’s victory on the court was more than just a win; it’s a reflection of the rapidly growing movement in women's sports – especially right here in Washington, DC. The surging momentum behind women’s sports is undeniable. For years, we’ve believed in the transformative potential of women's sports, and last night’s record-breaking turnout shows that this belief was well-placed. This is our vision coming to fruition. To our fans, our partners, our employees, our coaches and our players: this is only the beginning. The demand for women’s teams has been building for years. We’re just getting started.

Two years ago, Monumental Sports & Entertainment completed our acquisition of NBC Sports Washington, laying the foundation for what would soon become Monumental Sports Network. Today, we celebrate the second anniversary of this milestone – and what a tremendous 2 years it’s been! Acquiring our local sports rights was a game-changer. It allowed us to build a new network that both enhances the fan experience and meets the needs of the future. We also opened our state-of-the-art production facility and studio in March, which now serves as our true home base. The passion and talent of our 70+ team members have been a key driving force behind our success. It’s been a unique pleasure to build strong, personal relationships with our staff – many of whom I’ve known since my early years rooting for DC sports. This team’s collaboration, grit, and dedication has made our vision a reality, and for them I am very grateful. With the media landscape rapidly evolving, it was essential for our network to not only adapt – but lead. I’m proud of all the Monumental Sports Network has accomplished and know there’s plenty more in store for the future. #TheGamesOn
