It’s #WorldFoodDay. Do you know where your #FarmBill is? One of the messages boosted by FAO today on World Food Day is that climate change disproportionately impacts agricultural economies and the rural poor, through decreased productivity and increased pest and disease pressure. The recent storms in Southern states are focusing attention on the need for disaster preparedness. But Congress should also consider action on the Farm Bill. Since farmers will be on the front lines of climate change, the Farm Bill should promote resilience and weather intelligence. Farmers have experienced weather events within the last few years and still maintained healthy yields. Preparing for potential future disasters can build on the lessons and data from those events. In addition to insuring farmers, Farm Bill programs can help them to prepare for disaster by utilizing distributed renewable energy, water conservation, and field management tools.

Great piece in the Post. Nowhere is truly safe from the impacts of climate change, even climate "havens" unfortunately. The situation is bad, really bad, but we have a multitude of solutions. #climateaction, #wind, #solar, #distributedrenewables, #agenergy, #biobasedproducts, #greenfinance... https://wapo.st/4eLzbtm

Green Capitol wants to wish everyone a happy Earth Day! So much more to do to solve countless challenges, from maddening fossil based plastics pollution, to protecting the water supply from PFAS, expanding equitable renewable energy adoption, stemming species decline and vast extinctions, and of course addressing ever more quickly and efficiently the climate crisis. But we remain hopeful that progress is inevitable. We really have no choice but to get the various jobs done. And that's what Americans and our global citizenry wants, on a bi-partisan or non-partisan basis. Human passion and ingenuity can lead the way. Suggestion: Try to do just one thing today to celebrate Mother Earth and make the world a better place. I'm not driving and going to donate to a charitable environmental/public health organization. I took a hike yesterday in a ponderosa pine forest here in CO with my pup to boot, so invigorating. Meanwhile here is earthday.org's webpage link, this year's theme is people vs. plastics. https://lnkd.in/eBtzijDZ
