GreenScape CE
Community Development and Urban Planning
GreenScape CE is a European project financed by the Interreg Central Europe programme of the European Union.
About us
Cities are growing in central Europe, often turning green areas into grey concrete places. This urban sprawl accelerates negative effects of climate change such as urban heat islands. The GreenScape CE project - Climate-proof landscape through renaturing urban areas in Central Europe, works on reversing the trend by making urban areas greener again. The partnership strengthens planning capacities and pilots the application of nature-based solutions and green infrastructure approaches in five cities, which are significantly affected by urban heat island effects. #GreenScapeCE is a project financed by the Interreg Central Europe programme of the European Union. 🌿 Preserving Health with Green Urban Spaces 📄 Our esteemed project partner, the Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health, recently published an insightful article on the importance of developing green and blue infrastructure in urban areas for public health! 🏙️ 💡 Key Takeaways: 🌱 Urban green and blue areas, such as parks, gardens, lakes, and rivers, play a vital role in improving air quality and enhancing our well-being. 🍃 Green infrastructure helps reduce stress, supports social interactions, and promotes contact with nature, making cities healthier for everyone! 🚫 However, some urban plants, like those producing allergenic pollen, can pose health risks, especially for respiratory conditions. 🌳 The solution? Smart, thoughtful planning! By increasing biodiversity, choosing low-allergen species, and managing urban trees effectively, we can create greener, healthier cities for all! 💚 🙌 This article was published in the framework of our #GreenScapeCE project, which similarly aims to integrate green elements into our grey urban landscapes, making cities more resilient to climate change 🌦️ while improving public health 💪. 📲 Read the full article (in Croatian 🇭🇷) here🔗: https://bit.ly/3ToC6Qs #GreenScapeCE #MakingGreyCitiesGreener #cooperationiscentral #madewithinterreg #Interreg #ViennaPM #GreenScapeProject #ParticipatoryDemocracy #CommunityEngagement Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme - North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA) - Energiaklub Climate Policy and Applied Science - Ambiente Italia S.r.l. - Etifor | Valuing Nature - City of Zagreb / Grad Zagreb - GRÜNSTATTGRAU - Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health - alda* - European Association for Local Democracy - Città metropolitana di Milano

🌿🌳 Discover the Power of Bioswales! ℹ️ Did you know that nature has its own way of fighting climate change? Bioswales is a fantastic Nature-Based Solution (NbS) that helps manage stormwater runoff while boosting biodiversity and enhancing urban landscapes! 🌱🌧️ 📚 Here’s what you need to know about Bioswales: 🌊 Nature’s Filters: Bioswales are like nature’s own filter, absorbing, storing, and purifying rainwater before it reaches our waterways. These green corridors, filled with native plants, not only control water flow but also create thriving habitats for local wildlife. 🌸🐦 🌱 Green and Functional: Reduce flooding, filter pollutants, and recharge groundwater. 🌆 Urban Warriors: In urban areas, bioswales are often integrated into streetscapes and parking lots to combat runoff and enhance aesthetics. ☀️🌳 Sun and Shade: Choose the right plants for bioswales, and they can handle both sunny and shady conditions. 📚 Here's why Bioswales are amazing: 💧 Eco-Friendly Water Management: they reduce flooding risks and filters pollutants naturally. 🌳 Urban Beautification: they transform streets into vibrant green spaces. 🦋 Biodiversity Boost: they support local plants and wildlife, adding life to our cities. 🌟 Let’s work together to integrate more of these solutions and build a sustainable future! 🌿🌏 #GreenScapeCE #MakingGreyCitiesGreener #cooperationiscentral #madewithinterreg #Interreg #ViennaPM #GreenScapeProject #ParticipatoryDemocracy #CommunityEngagement Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme - North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA) - Energiaklub Climate Policy and Applied Science - Ambiente Italia S.r.l. - Etifor | Valuing Nature - City of Zagreb / Grad Zagreb - GRÜNSTATTGRAU - Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health - alda* - European Association for Local Democracy - Città metropolitana di Milano

🌿 Contributing to Greener Urban Spaces Across Central Europe 🌍 In Central Europe, an innovative initiative is helping contribute to greener, more sustainable urban spaces! 🌱✨ The Visual Mapping Platform (GVMP), developed as part of the Interreg #GreenScape CE project, supports cities in climate-proofing through renaturing efforts. 🗺️ What is GVMP? It's an interactive map-based platform that enhances the planning of green and blue infrastructure—think parks, greenways, rivers, and lakes in urban areas! It offers three powerful tools: 🔹 Accessibility Tool: Analyzes how easily citizens can access green spaces. 🚶♀️🌳 🔹 Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Tool: Evaluates sustainable infrastructure solutions. 🌾🏘️ 🔹 Connectivity Tool: Assesses how well green spaces are connected. 🌐🌻 These tools help cities plan and implement effective green infrastructure, boosting urban resilience to climate change! 🌍💪 💡 Why is it Important? GVMP's visual maps and simulation tools make planning and communication easier for everyone. City planners, local governments, and residents can see the current state of green and blue infrastructure and identify opportunities for improvement. This transparency fosters community engagement and supports informed decision-making for sustainable urban development! 🏙️💚 📍 Key Highlights from Cities in Central Europe: 🍀 Zagreb, Croatia: Focusing on eco-friendly transport and reducing air pollution 🚴♂️🌬️ 🍀 Ptuj, Slovenia: Enhancing urban climate resilience and well-being 🌳🏛️ 🍀 Warsaw, Poland: Promoting smart urban logistics and zero-emission transport solutions 🚦🚍 🍀 Metropolitan City of Milan, Italy: Tackling pollution and climate change with green infrastructure 🌆🌿 🍀 Szeged, Hungary: Implementing green infrastructure to combat heatwaves 🌞🌱 🤝 A Collaborative Effort: GVMP was developed under the leadership of the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, with incredible support from partners across Central Europe.
