To help celebrate the CED (Center for Entrepreneurial Development)'s 40th birthday—on top of attending their birthday bash—we are excited to welcome back Jay Bigelow, head of founder engagement, to this week's Friday Nooner! If you haven't heard of Jay and what he and CED are doing for the entrepreneurial ecosystem here, this Friday is a great time to hear all about it! Jay has been a part of CED's 40-year history for about 12 years of it, working to organize local and national expertise to provide guidance, mentorship and capital to the area's budding companies. Jay has also been on NC IDEA's grant review committee for over 11 years, so safe to say he knows a bit about how to help startups. Tune in live this Friday!

🌱 In the search for sustainable tourism destinations, Annie Combs also found a lot of negative signs. 🌆 A main issue was that larger commercial destinations were outcompeting locally owned, eco-friendly lodges. Without the funds for marketing or a website, these smaller venues depended primarily on word of mouth. ✈️ Combs wanted to help them reach the wider travel market. After two years of research and development, Combs and two other co-founders (Kat Orellana and Sachiko Lamen) incorporated ECPC Travel, a platform with the mission of connecting tourists with environmentally and socially responsible adventures. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eVGNGdDR

Congratulations to the CED (Center for Entrepreneurial Development) on their 40 years as a integral support organization for this ecosystem! 🎉 GrepBeat attended the birthday bash last night at Koka Booth Amphitheater to commemorate the 40-year history of not just the organization, but also, as CEO Kelly Rowell said, the Triangle community's growth over the last 40 years. 🗣️ “Yes, CED is turning 40, but the entire community is turning 40, and I think that’s what this is about,” Rowell said. “It’s not about how we can make CED better. It’s about how we can make our community better together.” Check out our quick recap of the event here! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eUAk4ssZ

Happy #InTheSoup 🍲 Wednesday! Life as a one-founder startup has its pros and cons, but at the end of the day, it’s always going to be a little difficult running a company by yourself. That’s why in today’s episode, hosts Jenn Summe and Melissa Crosby hear solo founders Dr. Sarah Glova of Reify Media and Jeff Soplop of Nimble Energy to break down the good and bad challenges as a one-founder company. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e46ZM778

Reporting on tech and startups in the Triangle and Wilmington

ATTENTION Wilmington entrepreneurs, investors and ecosystem leaders! Friends of Wilmington also encouraged!🚨 As GrepBeat expands its coverage into this great city and ecosystem, I would love if anybody could share websites and accounts dedicated to Wilmington tech/business events, news and stories. The #MondayMix needs some more beachy tunes and we'd love to find more Wilmington faces to feature on our podcasts #InTheSoup and #TheFridayNooner! It also helps to share the word around the wonderful stories of people and communities that we hope and plan to cover. If you have any top of mind, please comment them below... or DM me on here. Or email me at kaitlyn@grepbeat.com. I am thrilled to get started in covering more of this wonderful town! 🎉 🏖

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Wine Sampler last night to celebrate GrepBeat and ⚡️Primordial Ventures' launch to Wilmington! As we've said last night, in previous newsletters and will always continue to say going forward, we are thrilled to start uplifting the companies based out of this new thriving startup ecosystem! Special thanks to Robert S. Cooley, Jr. for providing us the wonderful space to mingle, drink and eat, and Jack Fleming for some of the photos. EVEN BIGGER thanks to the new Wilmington faces we got to see and the familiar faces that came to show their support. Yay NC tech ecosystems! Check out our recap story on the event and some more photos! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaEu2Tet
