A significant jump in interest rates over the past 24 months put downward pressure on valuation multiples at a time when acquirers were already becoming cautious due to the possibility of the economy slipping into a recession as the Fed aggressively sought to taper inflation. As it stands early in 2024, there is reason to believe that many of these headwinds are beginning to subside. #mergersandacquisitions

Fire Engine RED, a leading provider of student enrollment services for the higher education market, engaged Griffin Financial Group, LLC as its exclusive investment banker to evaluate its strategic options, in part because of Griffin’s prior experience in the higher education services market. Ultimately, this led to a decision to divest the Student Search business and retain the CRM business. Griffin launched a competitive sale process by identifying and contacting a select list of strategic and financial acquirers that would best meet the shareholders’ goals. This process generated multiple offers and ultimately resulted in the sale of the Student Search business and the F.E.R. brand to Carnegie, a leading provider of higher education marketing and enrollment strategy solutions based in Westford, MA. Griffin managed a competitive process involving private equity, family office and strategic partners, ultimately resulting in 100% of American Asphalt’s stock being purchased by The Earle Companies, a leading strategic player in the civil construction and asphalt space across the tri-state area.
