If your people travel for projects, don’t go cheap on accommodations. Nobody wants to stay in rundown motels or bunk with a co-worker. It’s a fast track to lose your traveling superintendents or other employees by trying to save a buck. Being away from family is tough enough, don’t make being on the road even worse. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

Top performers don't settle for average. They expect top of the market pay, big bonuses, a vehicle allowance, company-paid insurance, profit-sharing, and other perks. If you can’t provide these incentives, it's going to be a lot harder to get top of the line people on your team. Investing as much as you can in your employees is the best way to get and keep top talent. Average pay and benefits = average people. Don't settle for average. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

Interviews in a poorly lit conference room are boring. Instead, spend some time with a potential employee by showing them one of your job sites. It not only gives you a chance to get to know candidates better, but it's also an opportunity to show off your work and what makes you different. Surprisingly, not too many construction companies do this. Give it a shot - it’ll help you stand out from the other companies they’re interviewing at. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

  • It is crucial not to overlook the importance of PTO and work-life balance for your employees. A healthy work-life balance leads to: ✅ Improved employee morale and job satisfaction ✅ Reduced burnout and turnover rates ✅ Increased productivity and engagement When employees take the time they need to recharge, they tend to come back to work with more focus, motivation, & energy, ultimately benefiting your projects and bottom line. How are you prioritizing work-life balance in your people? 🤔 #groundupconstructionrecruiting #worklifebalance #PTO

Most people look at the hard costs when they lose an employee, but soft costs hurt just as much. ❌ Lost knowledge ❌ Lower productivity ❌ Drop in employee morale ❌ Change in company culture  ❌ Time it takes to onboard and train someone new These are all challenges and hidden costs you face when you can’t retain your people. Losing employees has a more negative impact than you may think. It’s hard enough to hire good people - do everything you can to keep them happy once they're on your team. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

Soft skills set candidates apart. There’s a lot of superintendents out there that have built incredible projects and have the hard skills necessary. But only a fraction of them have the soft skills our clients are looking for and pay us to find. This isn’t just superintendents though, it’s all construction professionals. Hard skills get your foot in the door, but it always comes down to soft skills for whether or not they let you in. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

Many general contractors are opposed to hiring someone with a subcontractor background that wants to make the transition.    They tend to want someone that can dive in on day 1 and know exactly what to do.    But the problem is there’s only so many people with the exact background they're looking for.   This leads to the belief that there’s nobody out there to hire. But that’s just not the case, there’s a lot more people capable than you think. A blind eye is just being turned to them.    They may not be the "perfect" employee you’re looking for when you first hire them, but they can be there in no time with proper training and mentorship.    A lot of candidates are being left on the table due to this way of thinking.   Take advantage of the opportunity that’s right in front of you. #groundupconstructionrecruiting

High performers aren’t always great at selling themselves on paper. For a busy owner or executive, it can be easy to pass right by candidates and only consider people who have resumes that are well put together. Without even knowing it, you could have let one of the most experienced construction professionals in your area slip through your fingers. Not all resumes are gonna be pretty. In fact, most of them you see in construction aren’t going to be. But if you pick up the phone and have a conversation with candidates instead of throwing them aside, that’s where you can find the real beauty in what they have to offer. #groundupconstructionrecruiting
