The bare minimum all students should do on LI: Tailor their feed to their target career In other words, follow people and organizations who publish content relevant to their target career. Are you a law student? Follow: • Law firms • Regulators • Law societies • Practicing lawyers Are you an HR student? Follow: • Staffing agencies • HR consultants • Recruiters • SHRM Are you a marketing student? Follow: • Marketing agencies • Digital marketing platforms • Professional associations (eg. AMA) • Established marketers and brand strategists (Didn't see your major listed? Go to ChatGPT and use the following prompt: "What pages or organizations should a [your major] student follow on LinkedIn?") Do this and your feed populates with relevant content. Engage with it, and the algorithm will continue to show more content like it. No easier way to gain insights on industry practices, trends, and updates. Bonus points if you join the conversation through thoughtful comments and questions. As a tech student in college, you are often overwhelmed with information about what your future should look like. Go into that major. AI is taking over your job. Here’s how you find your dream role. Blah, bLah, BlaH….. 🛑 But the honest truth is: You just have to try different things.  The only way to truly find direction is by moving forward. 🏁 It’s going to be uncomfortable. You're definitely going to mess up.  (I did 🤷♀️) But what you gain is clarity on what you enjoy and what you're good at. You can do this by: 1️⃣ Trying different clubs 2️⃣ Talking to professionals/students in interesting roles 3️⃣ Exploring various resources and tools outside your bubble. 👉 (GroundedTalks 😉) Most importantly, be open to failure! An image all college students should see: (From NACE Job Outlook 2024 Survey) GPA matters, but much less than most students think. Want to stand out? "Employers cite internship experience as the top deciding factor when they are deciding between two equally qualified candidates for a job opening." “Furthermore, what can make them stand out from other candidates is the ability to connect the skills and qualities they developed to the position and articulate that connection to employers on their resume and during interviews.” (Link to full article in the comments.) In short, focus on: 1. Building relevant experiences/skills 2. Learning how to communicate them — Not sure what experiences/skills are relevant? Do informational interviews w/ folks in your target roles Nor sure how to communicate your skills/experiences? Visit your career services office for 1:1 coaching — There's a reason why your GPA takes a single line on your resume and the rest is dedicated to highlighting your experiences and skills.
