CustomCells joined the Italian Tech Week in Turin! 🇮🇹   Our CEO Dr. Dirk Abendroth was on stage together with Rick Costantino, founder and CTO of our partner Group14 Technologies. They talked about "Exploring Next-Gen Energy Storage Solutions“.   📣 Dirk: “In embracing the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow, CustomCells reaffirms its dedication to being an integral part of the energy transition. We are not just witnessing the evolution of battery technology, we are actively shaping it to ensure that our contributions lead to a better, more sustainable future for all.”   Group14, the world’s largest global manufacturer and supplier of advanced silicon battery material, and CustomCells signed in July a multi-year supply agreement. The contract value is expected to exceed US$300M for supply beyond 2030 🔋🫱🏻🫲🏻   In the European context, Italy is one of the fastest-growing VC-startup ecosystems. Not only has it significantly narrowed the gap with other countries, but it has also tripled its number of unicorns in just two years.    Italian Tech Week is Italy's premier tech conference, bringing together the brightest minds in the international tech scene to discuss innovation, future trends, and new directions.   One of the many highlights: An in-person fireside chat by Sam Altman, Co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, and John Elkann, CEO of Exor N.V. and Chairman of Stellantis & Ferrari.

We’re thrilled to announce that Group14 was selected for a $200M award negotiation by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to build a new silane factory in Moses Lake, Washington. This state-of-the-art factory is expected to produce 7,200 metric tons of silane gas annually – a key raw material for next-generation silicon batteries. This major step forward helps us secure a reliable, domestic supply of silane, reducing dependency on foreign sources and fueling the U.S. battery supply chain for electric vehicles and beyond. As Group14 CEO Rick (Eric) Luebbe put it: “A new silane factory in Washington state will allow Group14 and other silicon battery companies in the U.S. to source this critical raw material domestically, to support EV-scale battery production and reduce foreign battery supply chain dependence.” This milestone is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law initiative, aimed at expanding domestic battery manufacturing for electric vehicles and the electrical grid. Congratulations to Don Kersey, BAM-2 factory plant manager and long-time Moses Lake resident, who has been appointed to the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of The Columbia Basin. The efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs to provide after-school care and programming to local youth benefits the entire Columbia Basin community, and we’re incredibly proud of the difference Don will make in his new position. "It's truly an honor to join the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs. The impact the Clubs have on the lives of young people in the Columbia Basin is immense and something I’m proud to continue to support, especially as a local in Moses Lake. I'm grateful to Kim Pope for the invitation -- Kim works tirelessly on behalf of this program and our community, and she always makes sure the kids come first." Group14’s community engagement program seeks to enable equitable access to education and job opportunities, and we’re thrilled to continue investing in the future of the Columbia Basin community.
