The following statement was released from the office of Raymond Jones, Senior Vice President of Operations this morning (October 16, 2024) prior to the release of the upcoming Podcast "State of the Hospitality Economy” "Over the last 3-months I have had a chance to review the economy in all areas of the country (especially in geographical areas where we have hospitality operations located) it is very apparent to me that in looking at the big picture of the economy as it exists in October 2024 that are economy is stagnant, although layoffs, work hours and pay scales and salaries are being reduced and although some major hospitality business bankruptcy filings have slowed somewhat, California continues to experience a continuing slowdown in the Hi-Tech industry, the retail and hospitality industries, the housing market is not improving, many residents are both either unable to qualify for a new home loan, and those with large monthly mortgage payments are struggling to make those payments and in many cases are not making these payments because of either job loss, position eliminations or simply are not making enough money to continue to live in both the San Francisco Bay Area and California market places. There is a lot of uncertainty in our country today! Because of this major companies are laying off employees, restaurants are reducing employees work schedules because of the increase in state mandated minimum wages and the reduction in guest counts after raising food prices, hotel occupancies and banquet bookings are down for several reasons being (1) the economy, (2) increased competition, (3) companies tightening their belts on travel, events, entertainment, etc. The underlying concerns that I hear every day from companies and clients all over the country is this; “until companies know the direction that our country will take, they are all going to take a wait and see mode until after the elections are over” One thing for sure, until the economy can turn around and the public can regain confidence, jobs will continue to decline, and when jobs disappear, money disappears, customers in restaurants go away and occupancy in hotels will continue to decline. On July 15, 2024 the company placed a hiring FREEZE on all administrative level positions for the next NINETY (90) days both in California and company office locations nationwide. What this means; that if you were a candidate, a candidate selected for the interview and selection process, or a candidate that received a Contingent Offer of Employment Letter that each one of those processes have been put on HOLD for the duration of the hiring freeze. Once the hiring freeze has been lifted, all of those processes will be resumed and any offers or contingent offers of employment will be re/reviewed at that time with those candidates. Yesterday (October 15, 2024) Mr. Jamison, Mr. Jones and I held an in-depth meeting and discussion including the review of our countries economy as it pertains to the hotel/restaurant and hospitality industry, our current client companies, continuing clients and new upcoming international operations in 2025 and the 693 pre/client companies in the hotel/restaurant industries that we have spoken with over this year. Based on all of the above, a joint decision has been made on the following with regard to the recruitment and hiring of (1) Direct Hire Administrative and Company Employees, (2) Direct Hire of Exempt Level (Management) and Company Employees, (3) In-Direct Hires of Client Hotel/Restaurant Employees and (4) Those Direct Hire Candidates who's hiring process was interrupted, suspended or put "on-hold" due to the "HIRING FREEZE" which became effective on July 15, 2024. (1) We will begin the recruitment process today for all external OPEN positions for our CURRENT client companies in alignment with labor budget lines. (2) We will review the current staffing needs of several pre/client hotel/restaurant companies that we are currently in contract negotiations with but will NOT begin the actual recruitment process until contract signing is completed and a management contract start date is in place. (3) We will NOT begin accepting any new candidate applications for internal administrative level positions in any of our offices until January 1, 2025. (4) We will NOT begin accepting any new management (exempt level) applications and positions in any of our offices until January 1, 2025. HPD Patrol Offices found these NEW and ILLEGAL dumps at 12:40 PM today Saturday June 30, 2024, while on community patrol of Communications Hill North. Per Patrol on scene, these mattresses and the potential flammable contents were left in the middle and side of the street blocking traffic at the “turn around” " located on the road on Communications Hill NORTH Blvd. The first arriving HPD unit cleared the mattresses and the contents from the roadway to permit the flow of vehicles on the street. Because of the high potential for another fire on the “hill” this week, HPD Commander has escalated this matter to the City of San Jose, Illegal Dump/Public Works Department today to get those mattresses and the flammable contents removed no later than Monday July 1 The HPD Patrol Officer on the scene spoke to a SCSO Officer who was also on scene this afternoon, and both agreed “that all it would take is a match or cigarette tossed on one of those mattresses on the street and next to the dry grass to start another inferno” The “HPD” Commander who also arrived on scene this afternoon said “it’s been a month to the day that we have been free of ILLEGAL DUMPS here, but also stated with the very dry conditions of the grass in the surrounding areas and streets of Communications Hill, he is ordering his department to begin increase patrols beginning tomorrow Sunday and Saturation Patrols starting on Wednesday July 3rd and continuing through the holiday weekend” He also went on to say that all law enforcement departments, (SJPD, SCSO, SJFD and HPD) and have adopted a ZERO TOLERANCE position for offenders which will include arrests for Arson, Vandalism, Trespassing, and other property related crimes. Both myself and our hospitality and homeowner protection “teams” will continue to be advocates for the community and the personal safety of all residents of this community as well as communities all over the South Bay. Illegal Dumping/Homeless Camp Evictions Description: HPD Patrol Officer found this NEW and expanding ILLEGAL dump at 12:12 PM today Thursday May 30, 2024, while on community patrol of Communications Hill North. Per Patrol on scene, this appears to be both an expanding dump that has grown from one item at the “turn around” " located on Communications Hill SOUTH Blvd. A BIGGER CONCERN is the large pile of dry grass that appears to have been recently plowed but left on dirt by the sidewalk (picture attached) A carelessly tossed cigarette or match will ignite the whole field on fire. This matter needs to be prioritized and is being escalated to the HPD Commander and the SJFD The other items (picture attached) seem to be a collection of garbage obtained from a recent homeless encampment closure. This matter and items have been growing rapidly in the last 2 weeks but also needs to be addressed as well.
