Empowering individuals who are blind or have low vision since 1946 by providing Guide Dogs free of charge.

About us

The Guide Dog Foundation empowers individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have disabilities by providing free guide dogs since 1946. We welcome students from across the US and around the world, offering personalized instruction to accommodate diverse needs. Our operations rely solely on generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations—without government funding. As pioneers, we earned certification in 2009 from both the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International. This accreditation signifies our commitment to the highest standards of dog care, education for trainers, and a consumer-friendly application process with grievance protocols.

Have you ever heard of a “JUNO walk?” It’s a key part of our training process at the Guide Dog Foundation! Before our handlers are paired with their guide dogs, they practice with a guide dog mobility instructor who simulates a guide dog’s movements. This helps them learn how to give commands and understand what working with a guide dog feels like. It’s all about getting ready to walk confidently and safely together! 🦮💙 To learn more about our guide dog program, click here: https://lnkd.in/eD-__phm The image shows Hope and Guide Dog Mobility Instructor Mark on the back squares at the Guide Dog Foundation. Employee Spotlight: Gabby T. 🎉 Meet Gabby T., our incredible Assistant Supervisor in the Canine Care Department! With more than five years of dedication to the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs, Gabby found out about our organizations through a friend, and she’s been making a difference ever since. Gabby’s favorite part of her role is watching the process come full circle— from seeing the pups come to the kennel from the nursery, witnessing their transformation during formal training, to the heartwarming moment when the dog is matched with their handler. “It’s all a very rewarding experience to know that I contributed to ensuring each dog goes on to be a successful working dog,” Gabby says. One of Gabby’s most cherished memories is getting to watch “dog day,” when students meet their new dogs for the first time. “It was such an emotional feeling to see just how much these dogs were going to change their lives from the moment they met,” Gabby recalls. Our dogs never cease to amaze her with their loyalty, adaptability, and their delight in helping their handlers live without boundaries. Thank you, Gabby, for all you do! 💙 To stay up to date with all things GDF, follow us on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/eQPPYVhk The graphic reads “employee spotlight” and includes a photo of Gabby smiling while holding two yellow labs puppies and one black lab puppy in her arms. Under her image it reads “Gabby T. Assistant Supervisor (Canine Care).” The background of the graphic is while with red, blue, and gold paw prints.

  • Are you in the Savannah, GA area and passionate about making a difference? 🦮🐾 The Guide Dog Foundation is looking for dedicated volunteers to help raise future guide dogs. What is puppy raising? Puppy raising is a 12-18 month commitment where you’ll welcome an 8-10 week-old puppy into your home. During this critical time, you’ll train the puppy in basic obedience and prepare them for their future role as a guide dog for someone who is blind or has low vision. Not ready for a long-term commitment? Consider puppy camping! Interested? Learn more about how you can get involved by visiting GuideDog.org/Puppy VD: 1 - An older yellow lab puppy is in a “sit” next to his puppy raiser. His mouth is open, and his tongue flops out of it. The pup wears his bright yellow “assistance dog in training” vest. 2 - A woman with short, black, curly hair walks with her black lab puppy. They are crossing over a cover on the pavement.
