Today we honor the contributions to support our mission to transform lives through partnership with service dogs and continue to advocate for inclusivity and accessibility. The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. Meet one of our Guide Dog Teams, Dr. Bill & Ford Dr. Bill is a 76-year-old currently living in Fresno, CA. He is a “Solo ager” (Widower) who has two children, Bill the Third and Christy. He is a Doctor of Education specializing in Leadership & Change. This past weekend I was able to attend a great joint seminar between Braille Institute of America, Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines, and Foundation Fighting Blindness Los Angeles Chapter. Our breeding department maintains a large breeding colony to ensure optimum health as well as desirable traits and temperament for successful guide and service dogs. It's Feature Friday! Meet Josh & Kona Josh is a Marine Corps veteran that completed two combat deployments to Helmand Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. "I first met Kona during the dog demo for our class to which she proceeded to just kind of sit with me for about 45 minutes and you could just kind of feel the anxiety melt away and the extra noise turned down while she just kind of sat and did deep pressure therapy. I do think Kona chose me."
