Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, at around 8:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center. A Category 3 hurricane at the time of landfall, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, Milton marks the third hurricane to make landfall in Florida this year (Debby and Helene). The National Hurricane Center expects Milton to make landfall early Thursday morning on the central-west Florida Peninsula coast, with the onset of tropical-storm conditions occurring late afternoon on Wednesday. Hurricane Milton is a powerful Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. Milton underwent an eyewall replacement cycle this morning, which broadened its wind envelope. The center of circulation is located about 100 miles northeast of Progreso, Mexico, on the Yucatan Peninsula and is moving east-northeast at 12 mph.
