About us
The H. E. Butt Foundation serves communities in Texas and beyond with initiatives to encourage people to live whole, healthy lives. Our mission is driven by our Christian convictions, and we create opportunities for groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Much of our work takes place in the Texas Hill Country on 1,900 acres with a breathtaking stretch of the Frio River Canyon. There, we run five programs—a youth camp, a family camp, an adult retreat center, an outdoor education initiative, and a camp offering free facility use to select groups—that together host over 27,000 people each year.

Where do LLYC counselors go after camp? Sometimes, they become teachers like Travis Stanford. Travis says that "Summers with LLYC were full of fun activities intertwined with hard, good conversations breaking down the Word of God and the gospel in a way that youth can understand it." Check out his story in "Out of Office Experience" from our latest issue of Echoes at https://lnkd.in/ggtgDA9v.

Where do LLYC counselors go after camp? Sometimes, they become graphic designers like Genevieve Peel. Genevieve says, "It's no surprise I ended up in creative roles. LLYC really nurtured that side with having a theme and learning to carry that theme throughout all the summer sessions." In Texas, working hard is sometimes not enough to make ends meet for families like Ingrid's. But UpTogether helps families keep their dignity and their pride. Because it pays to trust families. Read more of Ingrid's story at https://lnkd.in/gFXp5v4M

Where are LLYC counselors when they leave camp? Sometimes, they become scientists like Lexi Cooper. According to Lexi, working as a Singing Hills counselor has made clear to her about the type of leader she wants to be, "Be the counselor that cleans the cabin with them." Laugh when they laugh. Cry when they cry. "I want to be the type of leader that's in the trenches with you." Read her full story in "Out of Office Experience" from our latest issue of Echoes at https://lnkd.in/ggtgDA9v

"As we grow, all of us need to be asking what kind of city we want to be. Do we want to be known as a place that creates opportunity for all kinds of families? Or do we want to continue to be known as a city with some of the deepest economic segregation in the country? I want us to be a city whose success is measured by how much opportunity we create for families." —Patton Dodd Take an opportunity to read our own Patton Dodd's article in the The San Antonio Report. https://lnkd.in/gggJNEqZ

As humans, we are stewards of story. Storytelling, particularly telling other people's stories, requires great care and integrity. Our very own, Marcus Goodyear, Senior Director of Communications, discusses his experience telling stories with kindness, authenticity, and a love for God and others in our quarterly magazine, Echoes, with De Pree Center. “The numbers tell us mental wellness is becoming a challenge in our culture. Our American systems and institutions aren’t able to keep up with the changes that are stressing people out," says David Rogers. What if working at camp could offer a formational experience not only in fun, friendship, and service, but also in mental wellness?
