It was an exciting festival attended by Ethiopian diasporas, art, film and culture enthusiasts. Lambadina, Affini, and Aman's one man theatre proved that Ethiopia's film and art industry is rising to an international level of filmmaking. We are thrilled to share that we successfully hosted the 5th Annual Ethiopian Film Festival in London! This event was a remarkable celebration of Ethiopian cinema and culture, bringing together members of the Ethiopian diaspora and film enthusiasts from around the world. We were delighted to see a sold-out crowd, demonstrating the growing interest and support for Ethiopian films on an international stage. The festival kicked off with the screening of "Lambadina," a film that beautifully captures the essence of Ethiopian storytelling. We also featured "Affini," a film that offers a deep reflection on Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. One of the highlights of the festival was Amanuel’s captivating one-man show, which left the audience in awe with its powerful performance. This festival represents a significant milestone for the Ethiopian film industry, marking its next step towards global recognition. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this journey and to have provided a platform for Ethiopian filmmakers to showcase their talent. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm from the audience have inspired us to continue promoting Ethiopian cinema and culture on an international level. I spent the weekend at the fabulous and first of many, I hope, Ethiopian Film Festivals in Malta. Having already done four such annual festivals in London, Tigist Kebede, the Founding Partner and Operations Director of habeshaview, brought it to Malta with the help and deep support of Ronald (Ronnie) Micallef, the Ambassador of Malta to Ethiopia. Of course it helped that the brilliant actors Kalkidan Tibebu and Girum Ermiyas were there too! As well as being an international film distributor for Ethiopian made content, habeshaview Technology and Multimedia, established in 2015 (GC) 2007 (EC) is a multi-faceted media, entertainment and advanced technology company which has developed a user-friendly OTT / IPTV streaming platform along with apps, providing live news channels, entertainment channels, Video on Demand, games, documentaries, audio channels, children program, sport and much more, available to watch on any internet enabled device. habeshaview was the first service to be launched in Ethiopia in partnership with ethio telecom (2021 GC) and Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC (2023 GC) providing state-of-the-art IPTV service to their data and voice customers. What makes Tigist and habeshaview stand out from the crowd is their passionate belief in the building of the future of the Ethiopian and African film industry. Hopefully partnerships with the Malta Film Commission and the Malta Film Studios to build Ethiopia's Film Industry further will grow from this fabulous start. The First Ethiopian Film Festival in Malta was a success. We were joined by Ethiopians, movie and art enthusiasts all the way from the UK and Canada. The Festival included the screening of three Ethiopian movies called Affini, Abay vs Vegas, and Zemetaye. The artists met with their fans, had a Q&A, and visited the well known movie studio in Malta.
