The Mohn Art Collective (Hammer Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), MOCA | The Museum of Contemporary Art), partnered with East West Bank, joins a coalition of major arts organizations and philanthropists in L.A. led by the J. Paul Getty Trust to create the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund, a resource for artists and arts workers across disciplines who have lost residences, studios, livelihoods, or have otherwise been impacted by the devastating Los Angeles fires. This fund—supported by national and international institutions—has launched with $12 million and is continuing to grow. Beginning Monday, January 20, artists and arts workers can apply for an emergency grant through the Center for Cultural Innovation, which will administer the fund. We are following other similar initiatives and we understand this fund is one step in a long road to recovery for our creative communities. Our hearts go out to all who have been displaced, lost residences and studios, and now face enormous challenges caused by this tragedy. We're happy to welcome you this weekend to explore a new exhibition! Opening Saturday, January 25: "Hammer Contemporary Collection: Jennifer Bolande, Mona Hatoum, Alison Saar." 🗿 In three sculptures from our collection, each artist has used found materials to craft a theatrically protean object that flickers in and out of various iconographic connotations. https://hammer.ucla.edu/

Rubén Ortiz-Torres is an artist who often plays with images of power to look into iconoclasm. The sepia-colored ink used to make "4th of July BBQ Flag" was made from the ashes of a burned American flag. “Whether it's Jasper Johns or David Hammons, it seems to me that [the flag] really becomes a symbol of freedom when there's freedom to create it in different versions and interpretations,” Ortiz-Torres said. From blood to Kool-Aid, dryer lint to coffee—enjoy unusual mark-making artworks now on view in "Out of the Ordinary: Uncommon Materials, Marks, and Matrices." https://lnkd.in/g-QkZbtm
