In August 2024, mpox (the virus formally known as monkeypox) reappeared on the world stage. As cases alarmingly rose, the World Health Organization declared mpox an international emergency on August 14th. After the emergency declaration, traders rushed to buy any name with a hint of association with mpox. The Hammerstone team recalled that we had compiled a “mpox basket” of stocks in 2022 and quickly shared it with our subscribers. We also offered a little cautionary insight gleaned from the first mpox epidemic. The product, Jynneos in the U.S., has been approved in the EU since 2013 for smallpox. The FDA had given the vaccine the go-head in 2019.” Link to Story from RDCU.be   The purpose of our 1:42pm post was twofold: -To provide our users with a comprehensive list of mpox related trades, affording them a wide array of options if they were deciding to potentially trade the mpox story. -Secondly, to add context in reminding our community that despite the hype around everything mpox, there was just one company with an actual EMA and FDA approved mpox vaccine: Denmark’s Bavarian Nordic. The rally ignited after the emergency declaration continued into the next week as more mpox cases were reported daily and traders scrambled to participate, leading to massive gains in the mpox basket from our mention to highs several days later: $APDN +550%, $GOVX +350%, $VRAX+350%, $EBS +100%, $AEMD +85%, $CODX +57%, $TNXP +53%, $CMRX +45%, $NNVC +27%, $BVNRY +11%, $SIGA -5%. While almost all the names mentioned above surrendered their gains as the mpox threat lessened and the hype we cautioned about faded, Bavarian Nordic remains +31% since the mpox resurgence began & just 11% below the original Hammerstone alert with context. The incredible stock moves after Hammerstone’s timely heads up would have required some nimble trading, that's understood. However, one thing is clear: Hammerstone successfully achieved its goal of providing our community with the tools needed to make informed trading decisions in this case.
