⛳️ Golf Tip of the Month with Director of Golf, Jim Feipel at Panther Run Golf Club located in Ave Maria, FL. 𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗙 𝗧𝗜𝗣: 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗞𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗦 Many times I see players miss the green on their approach shot, only to end up in a bunker. The player often enters the bunker with the intent of being aggressive and attacking. Unfortunately, this shot often ends up either bladed over the green, or too much sand has been taken and the ball gets left in the bunker only to try again. Here are a few simple tips to get into a proper set up and execute a smooth flowing swing to allow for an easy exit out of the bunker. ▪️ We start by taking a wide stance for lower body stability and dig our feet evenly about an inch into the sand. This will help ensure that we make contact with the sand, which is vital for this shot. ▪️ Our feet should be slightly open to the target and the clubface should be slightly open to allow the bounce of the club to glide through the sand. ▪️ Place the ball position slightly forward of middle so we give that lofted club a chance to slide underneath the ball and scooping the sand to exit the bunker. ▪️ Hand position should be even with the club head. No forward lean of the shaft for this shot. ▪️ Lean into your front foot so that we promote a down descending blow into the sand. ▪️ As we swing, let's rotate the chest away from the golf ball and hinge the wrists up to set the club in the backswing. ▪️ As we work our way down to the ball, maintain more body weight on the front leg, strike the sand 2 inches behind the ball, and complete the swing with a good high finish. Keep in mind that the greenside bunker swing is long and flowing. When we swing aggressively, we tend to want to shift weight to our rear foot causing the player to release the clubhead to soon and making contact several inches behind the ball where it has no chance to make its way out the bunker. Releasing the clubhead to soon can also leave us in a position of wanting to create lift on the ball which then causes us to hit ball first with no sand and we blade the ball out and usually over the green.
