This morning, we had the privilege of expressing our gratitude to all of our dedicated safety chairs during the All-Chair Meeting and Recognition Breakfast. These individuals serve as safety liaisons within their departments to ensure that safety remains a top priority for us all. Their commitment helps us all make it home safely. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who plays a role in safeguarding each other!

Crews with our Maintenance Services team are wrapping up a months-long project to replace equipment and perform routine maintenance on the 29 meteorological towers that make up the Hanford Meteorological Monitoring Network. The towers collect and relay weather data to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Weather Service office in Pendleton. The team started in April and is wrapping up work on the last four towers this month.

Did you know we have a team of dedicated carpenters at HMIS? Carpenters were sent to repair soft spots in the entry deck to a facility on Site but, as they prepped for the repair, they noticed the damage to the deck was worse than expected. Instead of just completing the requested task and moving on, they made sure the field work supervisor and building owner were aware of the extent of the damage. Thanks to the carpenters’ quick thinking and commitment to safety, a new plan was implemented, and the deck was replaced in a timely manner to minimize work disruptions. Crews made sure it was safe and ready for workers entering the building. Thank you for all the work you do to make sure we stay safe on Site!

Every year, the HAMMER Federal Training Center welcomes local and regional fire agencies who utilize the facility’s custom-built firefighting props to train their teams. HAMMER recently hosted the fire brigade from Group 14 Technologies, which is building a battery manufacturing plant in Moses Lake. The brigade went through several extensive industrial-type firefighting training sessions to simulate situations they might face at their plant.

Another successful Oktoberfeast is in the books! Thank you to Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels and to all the volunteers, sponsors and participants for making this event a memorable one. Our HMIS family showed up to support the event and help our community fight senior hunger. And congrats to Daniel Martinez, who placed third in the 5K (and on only his second time ever doing a 5K race)!

Our Sign Painting Services team worked with the U.S. Department of Energy to update signage showcasing the newly named Hanford Field Office. On Oct. 1, the DOE Office of River Protection and DOE Richland Operations Office combined under the new name, further reinforcing the integrated approach to the One Hanford cleanup mission.

🚗 Road Trip to Second Harvest Inland NW! 🍽️ Several HMIS employees took half of Thursday off to road trip to Spokane and pack Bite2Go kits at Second Harvest! 2H distributes 12,000 weekend food kits every week to food-insecure students across Eastern Washington, including 15 schools in the Tri-Cities. We have proudly sponsored this program for many years to help make sure students return to school on Monday well-nourished and ready to learn! Together with other volunteers, these employees and their loved ones packed 3,680 Bite2Go kits! 💙💚💙💚
