Earlier this month, our Philadelphia #HangerClinic team joined the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) to host an interactive cooking class geared towards individuals with upper limb loss and limb difference. Using adaptive equipment and specialized instruction, participants learned new skills and gained confidence in their cooking abilities as they prepared a delicious three-course meal for all to enjoy! Our gratitude goes out to Hanger Clinic's Amy Todd, Joe Kersch, Matthew Johnson, MPT, CEEAA, and residents Jordan Gaffney and Chesca Basilio, along with CCP Chef Andy Marin and his culinary program students who facilitated the evening. Yesterday, #HangerClinic celebrated the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art Integrated Care Center (ICC) in Schaumburg, IL! The 19,000-square-foot facility is designed to deliver a high level of #OandP care to patients with limb loss, limb difference, or other physical disabilities in a collaborative and unique environment. Patients at the ICC will have the opportunity to trial different technologies and test out devices in real-world settings, including a large gym, rock climbing wall, golf simulator, running track, demo apartment and more. The center also features a full onsite fabrication lab, advanced technologies to track progress, and collaborative spaces for healthcare partners, peer support programs, and community events. The grand opening began with a ribbon cutting with Schaumburg Village President, Tom Dailly, and continued with a reception where patients and healthcare partners explored the numerous resources available at the ICC. “Empowering human potential is at the core of every decision we make,” said Hanger, Inc. Solene and Cordelia love to sing, play, and spend time with their older sister Aurora. The girls were both born with an ultra-rare genetic disorder called Congenital Titinopathy. The disorder is caused by a mutation in the gene which encodes titin—a massive protein essential for muscle function—and can cause a range of neuromuscular disorders. Clinician Kaitlin Cash at the Tallahassee, FL #HangerClinic, has provided care for 3-year-old Solene and 20-month-old Cordelia for the past two years, fitting them with ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) and supramalleolar orthoses (SMOs) to support their feet and ankles as their muscles strengthen and they build up mobility. "Kaitlin and the Hanger Clinic team have been such a huge part of our success," shared the girls' mom, Annelise. "She has seen my girls grow and get stronger, and her knowledge helps me feel at ease—and the girls feel it too!" Annelise hopes her daughters will be defined by what they can do instead of what they can't. We couldn't agree more, and we're happy we get to be a part of Solene and Cordelia's amazing story. #RareDiseaseDay #EmpoweredCareers
