Mrs. Cindy at Harris Cordele led a Comfort Item Drive during the month of August. Stuffed animals and journals were donated by employees to be given to The Gateway Center, Inc. of Cordele. The Gateway Center is a non-profit organization supporting Crisp, Dooly, Wilcox, and Ben Hill counties, and South Georgia for all victims of sexual assault. It is a member of the National Children’s Advocacy Center, which provides training, prevention, intervention, and treatment services to fight child abuse and neglect. Some of the services offered by The Gateway Center are forensic interviews, adult victim advocacy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, community outreach, 24/7 crisis hotline, counseling services, sexual assault nurse examinations, and after school programming. Because of the generosity of Harris employees, over 50 children in the care of The Gateway Center will receive a comfort item. There are multiple senior centers and rehab facilities in Cordele, and as part of our summer of Being Responsive, Dave led the charge to bring their residents some joy! Harris Cordele collected books, puzzles, coloring books, and magazines for these facilities. Harris Interns and Dave delivered boxes filled with goodies to local facilities. 13% of Georgia children live in food insecure homes, and 1 in 6 Georgia children are going hungry today. Food banks are an amazing community resource that can help reduce these numbers, and Susie wanted to make sure that kids in Appling County receive a fun surprise in their Summer food pantry box. Harris Baxley collected Pop-Tarts at the end of June to donate to the Appling County Food Bank, and we are sure that they saw a lot of smiling faces when handing out these treats.
