Hart & Hickman recently had the privilege of partnering with UNCC’s GEO Club to demonstrate groundwater sampling techniques and discuss the many rewarding opportunities in the field of environmental consulting. The students were incredibly engaging and asked insightful questions, making the experience both rewarding and energizing. Connecting with students is a fantastic way to bridge the gap between academia and the professional world, offering valuable insights on career paths beyond graduation. We are thrilled about the future and look forward to more collaborations with UNCC’s Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences. A big shoutout to our UNCC alumni, John Lopez, PG, RSM and Madeline Sesma, for spearheading this effort, and a special thanks to Eastern Solutions, LLC for generously providing the sampling equipment. We couldn’t have done it without you! #EnvironmentalConsulting #GroundwaterSampling #UNCC #EnvironmentalCareers #HartAndHickman #FutureLeaders
Another fantastic event organized by GEO Club, this time in partnership with John Lopez and Madeline Price of Hart & Hickman. Thank you John and Madeline for generously sharing your expertise with students! https://lnkd.in/dTPHjbcq

Hurricane Helene brought unprecedented damage and destruction to Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. One of the hardest hit areas was Western NC, which is a region that is near and dear to the hearts of many of us at H&H. Countless people are cut off from the rest of the world and are running out of basic supplies. Hart & Hickman will be collecting supplies to support Operation Airdrop as they provide immediate disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. A list of supplies needed and additional information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e7R9KyDS

In the early 20th century, industrial operations were commonly situated along waterways to facilitate the transport of goods. H&H recently completed a Brownfields assessment near Pamlico Sound, an area with historical uses that included cooperages, feed mills, and fertilizer plants. These operations likely involved the use of organic compounds, metals, PCBs, and fertilizers. Come for the environmental investigation, stay for the views! #Brownfields #EnvironmentalAssessment

Through October 15, 2024, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting public comments prior to establishing eight interim maximum allowable concentrations (IMACs) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under 15A NCAC 02L .0202. There are currently no DEQ NCAC 02L Groundwater Quality Standards for PFAS; however, EPA has established National Primary Drinking Water Regulation Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for six PFAS in drinking water, including individual MCLs for PFOA, PFNA, PFHxS, PFOS, and HFPO-DA (a.k.a. GenX), and a Hazard Index-based MCL which considers the combined toxicity of PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, and HFPO-DA. The EPA MCLs and proposed DEQ IMACs are provided in the table below. More information can be found on DEQ’s website. https://lnkd.in/eDVTqevf
