As we celebrate the Festival of Lights, let’s welcome new beginnings, the triumph of light over darkness, and the spirit of hope, joy, and unity. Our partner Layavinyasa has been bringing local communities together in schools and libraries. Their Culture Matters program connects people to Indian arts and culture through performances, discussions, and art education, offering community events and in-school programs that enrich and inspire. Founder Sarada Nori shares, "Through the program, Layavinyasa's artists had the opportunity to connect with new audiences and partners in our community. We are immensely grateful to the Hartford Foundation for encouraging new voices." A free Diwali event at the West Hartford Library is happening Tuesday 10/29 at 4PM where children, ages 6-12, can decorate lamps. #Diwali #CommunityFoundation #HartfordFoundation #AAPI #Art #Education

Culturally relevant outreach can enhance voter education and empower underrepresented groups to participate in elections. A grant from the Foundation supported Trinity College and the Hartford Votes Coalition in their efforts to boost voter participation through the Voter Captain program. This initiative leverages residents' shared values and personal stories to encourage family, friends, and neighbors to the polls. Since the summer, students have actively engaged with the community at local events and libraries, providing meals, childcare, and flexible training hours to accommodate busy schedules. Hear from Voter Captains, each of whom has committed to encouraging at least 10 people to vote. #VoterEducation #CivicEngagement #CommunityOutreach #HartfordVotes #GetOutTheVote #EveryVoteCounts #CommunityFoundation #HartfordFoundation #Grantmaking
