About us
The HDSI is a research and education program that fosters new data-driven approaches to issues of fundamental societal and intellectual importance. It promotes collaboration between methodologically- and domain-focused researchers, strengthens the Harvard data science community, and amplifies the impact of data science beyond the University. OUR FOUNDATION | We build upon our bedrock of strength in computer science, statistics, and the liberal arts. In addition to data-driven research, we are fundamentally committed to data science education at all levels and across disciplines. OUR LENS | We work toward shaping the future of data-driven policy and the implications of big data for human society. We imbue all data-driven solutions with rigor, reproducibility, and contextual understanding. OUR ENVIRONMENT | We leverage Harvard’s uniquely expansive network to connect cutting-edge technical expertise with deep domain knowledge across sectors including medicine, public health, law, business, and public policy. Our faculty generate data of incredible breadth and variety, creating arguably one of the richest data environments in the world.

🎶✨ Introducing Project42! 🎨📊 What happens when data science, music, and art collide? You get Project42, a collective where creativity meets reproducibility. Inspired by the number 42—the ultimate random seed—we’re creating a community where art and science are shared openly. Project42 began with a few Harvard Data Science Initiative scholars jamming together. Now it’s grown to 10+ members, each contributing with music, video, or art. 🎼🎥 Our goal is to make this a lasting, inclusive project where everyone with passion can join. So what’s next? In 2025, we plan to host (at least) two events at Harvard Data Science Initiative. Picture it: after-work gatherings where interdisciplinary scholars give 5-min talks on their latest work, with live music & art filling the spaces between ideas. If you are around or you are just interested in taking part to this regardless of where you are located, reach out to us, the more the merrier!🧠🎶 Follow us on IG: https://lnkd.in/dxGg_vWZ Linda Delacombaz Gianluca Guidi Alessandro Zito Federica Spoto Davide Viviano Veronica Ballerini francesca dominici Rebecca McLeod Nicolò Fraccaroli James K.
