  • Pakapaka pakīpakī ka nui ua Puluʻelo paumākō Moananuiākea i ka luʻuluʻu Panopano ke ao kea loa Auē, ua hala te ariki nui Auē Tuheitia ē We are saddened to learn of the passing of Te Kiingi Māori, King Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII. He passed peacefully this morning surrounded by his ʻohana. As soon as we learned of his passing, a heavy rain fell in Honolulu that inspired this composition. It was an honor to welcome and host the King in Hawaiʻi during the Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture as he lead the delegation from Aotearoa. He was also one of the visionary leaders to commit his nation to reestablish the connections between Moananuiākea in the traditional leaders summit at FestPAC. Ke aloha nui i ka whānau a i ko Aotearoa.

  • HTA continues to closely monitor Hurricane Hone as it passes south of the Hawaiian Islands, and our team is in close communication with state and county emergency management officials. It is still safe to travel to the Hawaiian Islands at this time. We are not advising visitors to cancel their trips. We do advise visitors to remain vigilant and stay informed, and offer the following tips: - Even distant tropical storms and hurricanes can bring heavy rain and strong winds. If you are planning to engage in outdoor activities, consider postponing these activities while advisories are in effect. Heed beach, park, and trail closures - they are for your safety. If you have reservations for a land or ocean activity, contact your provider to inquire about cancellations due to the weather. - Tropical storms and hurricanes affect the tides. Always swim at lifeguarded beaches and heed beach closures and other advisories. While beach parks may be open as conditions subside, exercise caution, consult the lifeguards on duty, and refer to hawaiibeachsafety.com for the most up-to-date information. If in doubt, don’t go out. - Before heading to the airport, check your flight status with your airline. All airports in the Hawaiian Islands remain open, but weather conditions may cause delays. Flights to and from Hilo (ITO) were canceled yesterday afternoon and evening, and early this morning due to wind. As flights resume today passengers will be reaccommodated. To stay informed and receive real-time updates, connect with your island’s emergency management agency through their social media channels and sign up for text alerts at https://lnkd.in/gNsjSutu.

  • An important part of HTA's work is to stabilize travel demand to Hawaiʻi, especially recovering our international markets. Our Interim President & CEO Daniel Nāhoʻopiʻi is on a mission to Korea with our Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke meeting with travel industry partners like Modetour, a company that has developed meaningful travel products for their customers around the value of Mālama Hawaiʻi. Last year, Modetour donated proceeds from their Hawaiʻi sales to Maui wildfire recovery efforts – not only talking about mālama, but living it. #MauiStrong #MālamaHawaiʻi
