Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom gave a shoutout to BEAM Circular and the huge potential of the bioeconomy at the California Economic Summit hosted by California Forward. He highlighted the initiative's rapid progress and called out the bioeconomy as California’s next trillion-dollar industry. In a surreal moment, he referenced HawkTower’s 10-year venture commitment to this space. I participated in the rise of the app/smartphone economy in the 2010s ... this feels similar. 📲 Currently, ag by-products and the bioeconomy are turning leftover almond shells and rice straw into energy (biofuels) and converting crop residues into natural soil enhancers to grow healthier crops. Soon, we can expect biomanufacturing and bio-based innovation to produce everything from medicines to new proteins, and other high-value materials, like construction materials. We’re humbled and excited to be part of this journey. I learn something new and meet incredible, dedicated Californians every day. 🚜 Agriculture is Changing — Are We Ready? 🌱 In the next 5 to 10 years, agriculture as we know it will look completely different. That’s why a new training program at community colleges across the Central Valley is so exciting—it’s preparing 8,400 workers to step into high-tech, higher-paying ag jobs by 2026. With free enrollment, the program sets the stage for the next generation of ag professionals, offering: ✅ A focus on digital literacy, equipping students with skills like operating advanced equipment and managing data for fertilizers and pesticides. ✅ Flexible, online learning that works around busy schedules, with study-at-your-own-pace options. ✅ Bilingual support in English and Spanish, with no restrictions on immigration status. ✅ Workplace readiness training in communication skills and resume-building. F3 Initiative and Merced Community College District designed this program with input from grassroots organizations and thousands of farmworkers, ensuring it meets the needs of those on the front lines of this transformation. The certificate program is being offered at Madera Community College, Fresno City College, Clovis Community College, Reedley College, Lemoore College, and Coalinga College.
