It is always such an honor to hear from one of the folks who inspired the Promise Neighborhoods Initiative, and who has proven via the Harlem Children's Zone that place-based initiatives are not just needed, but work! "There's been an intentional disinvestment (in communities) for decades. The disinvestment CAUSED the social problems. People begin to associate the social problems with the people. The only way you push back is by focusing on those places and being just as intentional." - Geoffrey Canada Thank you Mr. Canada for your continued service and leadership. We hope to eventually have a similar impact in #Hayward! #placebased #promiseneighborhoods #datadriven #HaywardPromise #cradle2career #cradle2careerCA

About us
Inspired by the Harlem Children's Zone, Promise Neighborhoods are place-based efforts to wrap children in integrated, coordinated, high-quality academic, social, and health programs supports from the cradle to college to career. Strong schools are core to every Promise Neighborhood, as is family and community engagement. Hayward was one of the first five cities in the nation to be awarded a five-year, $25 million Promise Neighborhood grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support Hayward's Jackson Triangle community and students that attend six focus schools within the Hayward Unified School District. Led by California State University, East Bay; Hayward Promise Neighborhooda brings together various local agencies to make long-lasting changes that will improve the educational outcomes and lives of the local community.

Check out what our ED had to say about the StriveTogether convening last week!
Thank you, StriveTogether, for bringing together cradle-to-career network leaders in Washington, DC for four days of learning, connecting, and visioning. I am committed to working in community to help course-correct toward a future that all children in our neighborhoods deserve by: 🔑 Unlocking how federal grants are regulated and can be leveraged across sectors 🔑 Unlocking data that highlights both urgent opportunities and measurable successes 🔑 Unlocking the power of community engagement to inform policy—the “community up” effect 🔑 Unlocking evidence-based strategies that guide investments 🔑 Unlocking the power of cross-agency collaboration and backbone infrastructure that goes beyond programming and towards movement building. There's a lot of work to be done but we have a strong foundation in Hayward Promise Neighborhoods to build from! Lastly, I am grateful I shared space with many inspiring leaders in this place-based work. Thank you, Josh Davis and the entire Strive Together Team! 📣 We are hiring! Spread the word! HPN is hiring for a Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator to support community engagement, food distributions, and referral systems. This is a great entry-level position for someone who is passionate about services in the Hayward and Cherryland areas. We will begin reviewing applications in mid to late June. https://lnkd.in/gMBZ-SxK

Last Wednesday's #HandsOff IMAGINE Rally was so full of life. Partners, community, & staff brought the energy to Sacramento. If our leaders can take a bit of the generosity & conviction from the rally into our #CABudget, we will be in great shape. What we're asking for is pretty darn simple: prioritize the most marginalized and most vulnerable communities in the California State Budget. There are plenty of solutions besides making cuts that will send families and foster youth into further trauma. Shout outs to co-sponsor of the rally SEIU California!

CPNN’s Promise Neighborhoods, including MEDA’s Mission Promise Neighborhood, met with Cradle-to-Career state and national partners to collaborate and plan our collective work ahead. It was our honor to co-leading the planning and support for this event as part of our California Department of Social Services partnership. #MEDA #cradletocareer #PromiseNeighborhoods

What a #DreamTeam! Hayward Promise Neighborhoods welcomed our newest partners who built the Promise Neighborhoods supports at the state and national level. We hosted over 60 leaders and practitioners across the CA Promise Neighborhoods Network. I am so proud of our work in Hayward and excited to share it with everyone. This is a sneak peek of our convening last week. Thank you Mission Economic Development Agency for co-leading the planning and support for this event as part of our California Department of Social Services partnership.
We had such a great time touring Hayward Promise Neighborhoods and reconnecting with the CA Promise Neighborhood leaders from across the state. We are thrilled to be working with such a talented team; providing technical assistance alongside the Urban Institute to scale the CA Promise Neighborhood Network. Dreams do come true! #cradletocollegecareer #dreamteam #PromiseNeighborhoods

On Wednesday, folks from around CA and the across the nation began making their way to Hayward to learn best practices from HPN, and to continue working on the strategic plan for our CA Promise Neighborhoods Network (CPNN). We kicked off with our Early Learning Info Night on Wednesday where folks got to witness alignment not competition across early learning partners. On Thursday, Promise Neighborhoods and partners were able to hear from our Hayward leaders, including one of our favorite mother-daughter duos, Julieta Martinez and Samantha Lopez Martinez, then visitors got to witness our Cradle to Career Education Reform Network (C2CERN) in action, followed by a trip to Brenkwitz High School where Principal Beavers and her wonderful student leaders shared about their experiences attending BHS and working with our Student Success Coach, Michael Harris. After the student panel, we visited the makerspace at BHS and learned about all the wonderful opportunities and on-going needs to maintain the space. Then our TVHC Promotoras de Salud and 4Cs staff shared about the community outreach and services they provide, and how they work together to ensure families have the resources they need. After a little networking break, our visitors got to hear from our CSUEB President Sandeen, City of Hayward Mayor, Mark Salinas, 4Cs Executive Director, Renee Herzfeld, HUSD Superintendent Dr. Reimann, and Chabot College VP of Student Services, Matthew Kritscher, about the ways in which these agencies collaborate to ensure our families really are served from cradle to career. The following day, only our CA Promise Neighborhood Network partners joined to continue working on our strategic plan to sustain our work, and to hopefully fund more Promise Neighborhoods across CA. It was 3 days packed with lots of wisdom sharing, and community building. We hope our partners come back to visit soon!
