World Mental Health Day | October 10, 2024   October 10th is World Mental Health Day with the overall objective to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world. The day provides an opportunity for all of those working on mental health issues to talk about their work and identify what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.   This World Mental Health Day, World Health Organization (WHO) is uniting with partners to highlight the vital connection between mental health and work. Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health. Unhealthy conditions including stigma, discrimination, and exposure to risks like harassment and other poor working conditions, can pose significant risks, affecting mental health, overall quality of life and consequently participation or productivity at work. With 60% of the global population in work, urgent action is needed to ensure work prevents risks to mental health and protects and supports mental health at work. It is essential for governments, employers, the organizations which represent workers and employers, and other stakeholders responsible for workers’ health and safety to work together to improve mental health at work. Action to address mental health at work should be done with the meaningful involvement of workers and their representatives, and persons with lived experience of mental health conditions. By investing efforts and resources in evidence-based approaches and interventions at work, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive at work and in life.     WHO continues to work with its partners to ensure that mental health is valued, promoted, and protected, and that urgent action is taken so that everyone can exercise their human rights and access the quality mental health care they need. Join the World Mental Health Day 2024 campaign to learn more about your rights and the rights of others.   To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/e42DJyh   Credit to: World Health Organization (WHO) #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #Safety #HazTekSafety

Fire Prevention Week October 6 – 12, 2024 Each year, the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) sponsors Fire Prevention Week in October. Here are key smoke alarm safety tips and guidelines: ·      Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home ·      Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button  ·      Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or stop responding when tested The NFPA provides resources that can help you prepare in the event of a fire. National Substance Abuse Prevention Month | October   October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, the vital role of substance abuse prevention for individual health and to remember those who have lost their lives to substance abuse. The Office of National Drug Control Policy encourages prevention efforts this month and all year long to help those suffering with substance abuse. It is also a time to acknowledge those in recovery, as well as children, parents, family, and friends supporting them.   Millions of Americans suffer from substance abuse, which includes underage drinking, alcohol dependency, non-medical use of prescription drugs, abuse of over-the-counter medications, and illicit drug use. Those with demanding jobs, such as workers in the construction field, are more susceptible to substance abuse issues. The stress of the job can lead to excessive drinking and drug use.    According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 2 out of 3 adults with a mental health issue consider themselves to be recovering or in recovery, while 7 out of 10 adults with a substance use disorder consider themselves to be recovering or in recovery.   Below are engagement opportunities for National Substance Abuse Prevention Month:   - Join the No Shame Movement: There is no shame in getting help or in talking about mental health and addiction. HazTek Was a Sponsor for the CRSC 2024 Safety and Health Conference & Expo HazTek recently attended and was a sponsor at the Chesapeake Region Safety Council’s 2024 Safety and Health Conference & Expo. The conference included 350+ attendees, 12 breakout sessions with educational panels, and 40+ exhibitors that included safety companies, PPE manufacturers, fall protection equipment companies, and more. There were also many expert speakers to talk about safety. In addition to being a sponsor for the event, HazTek also had a booth at the expo where our sales team talked to attendees about our services, open positions we’re hiring for, and general safety topics. Director of Construction EHS Mike Kenyon, Project Manager Larry Broadwater, and Senior Account Executive Scott Davis were in attendance and thought it was a worthwhile event where they were able to connect with many likeminded safety professionals. Thank you to Mike, Larry, and Scott for being great representatives for HazTek! #HazTek #HazTekSafety #Safety #Events #SafetyEvents #EHS

National Protect Your Hearing Month | October October is National Protect Your Hearing Month, an effort to build awareness that noise-induced hearing loss is nearly always preventable. Noise is part of everyday life, but at certain levels it can become hazardous. Repeated exposures to sounds that are 85 A-weighted decibels (dBA) or higher can cause permanent hearing loss and are associated with other problems including: ·      Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) ·      High blood pressure (hypertension) ·      Cardiovascular disease High noise levels can also contribute to serious workplace accidents and injuries. Noise can reduce workers’ awareness of what is happening around them, including signals, alarms, and verbal warnings. Reducing workplace noise below 85 dBA is the best way to prevent occupational hearing loss and other effects from hazardous noise. Additional benefits of reducing worker noise exposure include: ·      Less stress and fatigue ·      Increased productivity and better morale ·      Improved relations with management ·      Lower workers’ compensation costs To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/ek2bj7py To learn how HazTek can help your worksite protect their hearing, visit our website at www.hazteinc.com or email us at info@haztekinc.com.
