Three generations of the French family have dedicated their lives to healthcare, starting with John French in 1997 as a physical therapy assistant. His son, Justin, followed in his footsteps, becoming a registered nurse, and now, Justin’s son, Jacob, has joined the legacy as a patient care tech. Our colleagues have proactively supported their patients, communities and each other throughout Hurricanes Helene and Milton. In the wake of these storms, and with the help of our broader HCA Healthcare network, we've worked to support our colleagues by ensuring they have essential resources such as water, fuel, food and hygiene items so they can continue to care for patients across the Sunshine State. Additionally, 1,041 grants totaling more than $834,100 have been provided to colleagues directly impacted by the storms thanks to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, a 501(c)3 public charity. "Having these resources available for our HCA Florida Healthcare family lets our caregivers know that we are taking care of them and their families, so they can show up and provide outstanding care and emotional support to our patients," said Joe Rudisill, chief executive officer for HCA Florida Englewood Hospital in Sarasota County. As we continue to pick up the pieces following these natural disasters, we are so grateful to every one of our resilient colleagues for their unwavering commitment to the care and improvement of human life. ➡HCA Healthcare established the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund to support colleagues in disasters such as this. The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is a colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial aid and resources to employees after an extended illness, injury, disaster or other special situation. “As my journey unfolded, I found myself drawn to the hospital setting during my rotations. It was in the emerald coast of Florida that I discovered HCA Fort Walton-Destin Hospital,” said Carr. “The close-knit family atmosphere within the pharmacy department resonated with me, and I felt a sense of belonging. This realization inspired me to apply for the residency program at the hospital where I was born.” During National Pharmacy Week, we celebrate colleagues like Kayla and the vital contributions of the pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians, and other pharmacy colleagues across our larger HCA Healthcare network. Kayla Carr is a proud pharmacist at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where her journey has come full circle. Last night, Hurricane #Milton struck Florida’s west coast as a Category 3 hurricane, bringing powerful winds, rain and flooding as it moved through the state early this morning. The severe weather events have produced widespread damage and power outages across many communities that HCA Florida Healthcare serves. Ahead of the storm, our HCA Healthcare colleagues came together to prepare our facilities for potential impact by prepositioning construction materials and stationing remediation teams onsite at our hospitals. Additionally, HCA Healthcare's Nashville-based Enterprise Emergency Operations Center (EEOC) worked with our Emergency Medical Services partners to transport patients from high-risk areas to other facilities for safety. We’re continuing to assess the needs of our hospitals and we’ll continuously work to ensure critical resources like generators, fuel and water are positioned in impacted areas. During the storm, our HCA Florida Healthcare family showed remarkable dedication, reassuring patients, ensuring safety, and delivering continuous care. We are thankful for their courage, compassion and unwavering commitment to our patients and the communities we serve in the face of Hurricane Milton.
