🌍 Today, on World Refugee Day, we honor the courage, strength, and resilience of millions of people forced to flee their homes for safety. World Refugee Day, honored each year on June 20th, is dedicated to championing the human rights of refugees to seek safety, build support for their economic and social inclusion, and advocate for solutions to their plight. Today, there are a staggering 108,400,000 displaced people across the world, and 35.3 million people have refugee status under the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Headington Institute’s expertise lies in building strong and resilient changemakers, thereby lifting the missions of change-making organizations across the globe for effective and resilient work. Individuals and organizations who provide essential support and advocacy for refugees throughout the humanitarian sector face unique challenges and require robust support to continue their invaluable work. To support the well-being of humanitarian workers who carry out this meaningful work, we want to offer self-care tips for managing well-being, dealing with high-stress, and building resilience: Prioritize Self-Care: Be strategic and try to dedicate time each day to activities that rejuvenate you, whether it's practicing gratitude, writing in a journal, practicing meditation, or utilizing words of affirmation; it is crucial to find ways to take care of yourself while engaging in this meaningful, but often stressful work. Set Boundaries: Consider your living and working conditions and identify ways to set sustainable and realistic boundaries. Consider engaging in small but meaningful practices that help you create a separation between work and life to prevent burnout. Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to colleagues, friends, or mental health professionals when you need to talk. Stay Connected: Maintain strong personal and professional support networks to share experiences and gain support. Practice Mindfulness: Engage in mindfulness practices to stay grounded and manage stress effectively. By taking these steps, humanitarian workers can better manage their well-being and continue to provide the best possible support to displaced people.
