Today, the FDA declined to approve MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD. To say we’re heartbroken is an understatement, but our fight isn’t over. We will continue to push for progress, collaborate with stakeholders, and fight persistently until MDMA-AT is available to every #Veteran who desperately needs and deserves it. https://lnkd.in/e6iQeyYt

Transforming Veteran PTSD treatment with MDMA-Assisted Therapy.
About us
Healing Breakthrough (HB) is a 501(c)(3) public charity working to provide all Veterans with PTSD that may benefit with access to safe, legal, high-quality MDMA-Assisted Therapy (MDMA-AT) through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Through philanthropic funding, HB sponsors and promotes research, training, and education to support an effort that will not only catalyze access to healing for thousands of Veterans, but also contribute to the treatment’s clinical and social legitimacy, paving the way for other breakthrough therapies that have the potential to revolutionize mental healthcare within the VA and throughout American society.

Thank you, Dr. Shereef Elnahal, for your leadership at the VA in championing innovative therapies that can make a difference in veteran mental health. At Healing Breakthrough, we are proud to stand alongside you, Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Congressman Bergman, Congressman Morgan Luttrell, and former Congressman Tim Ryan in advancing psychedelic-assisted therapy research and advocating for access to these transformative treatments. Together, we’re paving the way toward a brighter future for veterans and the broader community.
VA IS LEADING ON STUDIES INVESTIGATING PSYCHEDELIC-ASSISTED THERAPY FOR VETERANS WITH PTSD AND MAJOR DEPRESSION I had a chance to join Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Congressman Morgan Luttrell on a panel at HLTH Inc. to discuss the next frontier in research for psychedelic-assisted therapy for PTSD, moderated by Ruth Reader of POLITICO. We announced our first study that will be funded out of VA’s own research dollars, which will investigate the effectiveness of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for Veterans with PTSD and alcohol-use disorder. Specifically, that study will use low-dose MDMA in the placebo arm in an attempt to address FDA’s concerns about patients knowing what study arm they’re part of— addressing “functional unblinding” will get the scientific community one step closer in better assessing the efficacy and safety of this novel therapy. This is the first study that VA is funding investigating psychedelics since the 1960s. I then went to a psychedelics conference and joined Congressman Jack Bergman and former Congressman Tim Ryan in a conversation with Juliana Mercer about what the future holds for getting more access to this potentially game-changing therapy. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs must lead on this encouraging area of investigation so that we can continue to build trust with Veterans contending with these severe health conditions. And we will.

"Despite billions of federal dollars spent on addressing PTSD and mental health, the number of veteran lives lost to suicide has not decreased. ... This astounding lack of innovation has undoubtedly contributed to our rising veteran suicide rates over the past two decades," wrote Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Mich.
