We are proud to announce that our partner practice, Somers Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Group, has successfully completed their first BEAR (Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration) Implant procedure, conducted by Dr. Daniel Howard. This is a milestone achievement as it is the first BEAR Implant Procedure performed in Westchester County, New York. The BEAR Implant, from Miach Orthopaedics, Inc., is the first medical advancement granted approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that enables the body to heal its own torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) – instead of standard ACL reconstruction surgery in which the ACL is replaced with a tendon graft. Our partner practices remain on the cutting-edge of orthopedic technology so that they can provide world-class care for all of their patients. This is the second of our partner practices to carry out the BEAR Implant procedure, the first being Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI), last year. Benefits of the BEAR Procedure, compared to standard ACL reconstruction – it helps patients’ own ACL heal, it restores the torn ACL quality and size similar to that of the non-injured ACL, it’s a simple outpatient procedure, there’s no need for tendon grafts, there’s faster recovery of muscle strength, and there’s higher patient satisfaction with being ready to return to sports.
