About us
The world is in crisis today. It has more than ever before- and more to lose as well. At the core of this crisis is our health as a planet, as people, and as a society. This course is set up to explore systemic issues of health and address them along the design continuum- from information, to product, to place, to policy, while being anchored on the environments we live in, and the human minds & behaviors that shape them. The built environment sets the stage on which the theater of life happens- the question we pose is how to set the stage for better health, while understanding that we work in an interdependent eco-system.

Resurfacing this article as we dig into how the #homes and #environments we #design can actively improve #activity and #nourishment that can help with disease prevention and management. It starts with understanding clinical needs, social determinants of health, and the user experience. And helping make the healthy choice the easy choice at the #pointofdecision #designcontinuum. We are excited to showcase the culmination of our students' efforts this semester! In collaboration with RVO Health, four student teams have explored and crafted innovative interventions for the design of primary healthcare spaces beyond traditional clinic walls. Tasked with challenging their assumptions, they were encouraged to investigate innovative ways care can be delivered across the #DesignContinuum in both digital and physical realms. Each team used their design skills to identify opportunities and propose solutions that are research-driven, people-centered, and rooted in a systems view of health. #StudentProjects #HealthByDesign #PrimaryCare #CareByDesign | Upali Nanda | Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning, University of Michigan Visit #HealthByDesign to learn more about each project: https://lnkd.in/dDv3Bgxi Upali Nanda Jenny Yu, MD FACS Joy Knoblauch Jonathan Rule Matias del Campo Camilla Moretti Betsy Williams, AIA LEED AP Tamie Glass Nikola Gjurchinoski Rutali Joshi, PhD, EDAC, LSSYB Meredith Banasiak Von Robinson Prakriti Vasudeva Natalie DeLiso

As we close another enriching semester, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this journey not only possible but truly remarkable. This term, we explored four pivotal topics that pushed the boundaries of health and design. Each theme challenged us and enriched our understanding, thanks to the diverse perspectives brought by our distinguished jury and guides. A big thank you to our jury: Betsy Williams, AIA LEED AP, Camilla Moretti, Nikola Gjurchinoski, and Rutali Joshi, PhD, EDAC, LSSYB, designers and researchers from HKS, who brought invaluable industry insights. Jonathan Rule, Joy Knoblauch, and Matias del Campo, our esteemed professors from Taubman College, for their rigorous academic guidance. Natalie DeLiso and Prakriti Vasudeva, our course alums, whose experiences and reflections added layers to our discussions. Jenny Yu, MD FACS from RVO Health, who served as our clinical guide and offered crucial healthcare perspectives. And, of course, Upali Nanda, the visionary behind this course, whose leadership and expertise continue to inspire us all. Your feedback has been immensely motivational, encouraging us to dive deeper and refine our research further. Stay tuned as we unveil more about the four topics we tackled and the insights we gained. The journey of discovery continues!
