#Nurses wear many hats in the industry, but their primary focus is on patient interaction and #caredelivery. Both nurses and #nurseleaders play pivotal roles in making sure that patients engage with #preventativecare measures and #patienteducation programs. It's also the #CNO's job to ensure the effectiveness of remote patient monitoring programs and to find creative solutions for dealing with social determinants of health. According to Cassandra Lewis, DNP, ACNP-BC Lewis, chief nursing officer at Bon Secours’ Richmond market, part of Bon Secours Mercy Health, and HealthLeaders Exchange member, improving patient engagement begins with the day-to-day interactions between the patient and the bedside nurses who care for them. Listen to this week's episode of the HealthLeaders Podcast to hear more about how nurses and nurse leaders can help patients engage with their healthcare, in and out of the hospital: https://lnkd.in/gj4d2iTv

Happy Thursday. Here's what we are following at HealthLeaders. #Cybersecurity has been the focus of a lot of our content this week (I really hope you didn’t miss this one with my friend Lynn Ansley! https://lnkd.in/eEBRnxbF), and now, a new study is showing #ransomware #attacks on healthcare organizations have hit a four-year high (https://lnkd.in/egv2AZGN). With the pressure rising expenses are putting on bottom lines, #CEOs can ill afford to be unprepared for a cyberattack. Cedars-Sinai CEO Peter Slavin, MD, recently told us why cybersecurity should be firmly on the radar of executives. “It's incumbent on all CEOs in healthcare and other industries to be vigilant on this front, to make sure that there are tons of people in place managing that vigilance on a day-to-day basis, and that function is appropriately resourced,” Slavin said. “All organizations just need to do their best to try to prevent such a catastrophe from happening.” Also today, should hospitals be allowing #AI to talk to your patients for you? Well, some already are (https://lnkd.in/evR8Hq4Z). WellSpan Health launched an AI platform that calls selected at-risk patients to schedule colorectal cancer screenings. “It’s an opportunity for us to reach out to people in their homes, in their own time, and have a conversation with them that we maybe couldn't staff with a human,” R. Hal Baker, WellSpan’s SVP and chief digital and innovation officer told us. “But [with] the right AI, that conversation could be had.” As #HurricaneMilton makes its way off the Florida coast, we are thinking of those affected and those lives lost. While several #Florida hospitals in the path of the menacing Milton planned to stay open during the storm, many issued evacuations last night and are without water today forcing executives to make some tough calls.
