We always love in-person time with our HearstLab Scouts & friends! 😍 Today, Senior Director Katie Bailey met with MCG Health's Product Management team to discuss key #healthcareIT challenges and opportunities as well as how the HearstLab ecosystem is uniquely positioned to operate as both an #investor and commercial partner. Fun fact: Katie started her career at Hearst in the Hearst Health #Innovation Lab & worked on FDB (First Databank, Inc.)'s product management team before joining HearstLab full time. Special thank you to Scout Advisory Board member Donna Baker-Miller for organizing!

Make the first move, make an analogy, make it personal! More gems from this week’s panel with Eastin, Abbie, and The Wharton School's Venture Lab on breaking the bias when pitching #Femtech, retail, and gender-focused solutions 💎👇 First & foremost: know your audience! If you can’t explain it to a 5yo, it’s too complicated. A quick “no” is a blessing - be thoughtful about who you take money from. You want longterm believers & partners! Write out hypotheses that must be true for your company to become huge (e.g. investor mindset, consumer behavior, regulatory change)…debate them! Building consumer products is really hard. Getting consumers to pay for things is even harder (especially in healthcare). Get clear on willingness to pay (note: waitlists are good signals but don’t equate to revenue). Remember: Venture capital is not the only path to funding a successful business, especially if you serve a niche market. Grants are a powerful option, especially in the healthcare space. Two market opportunities Abbie & Eastin are most excited about… 🔢 Consolidation of various existing features, products, and companies. 1+1 can = 3! 💉Precision medicine and therapeutics, especially for women. There’s still so much we don’t know and so much opportunity for innovation. A few bottom lines: Bias does not change without education and opening doors. Imposter syndrome is real (and we’re almost all experiencing it). Push someone forward or bring them with you 💪 Thanks again to Rebecca M. Winkler (PMP), Jill Anick (she/her), and team for having us! https://lnkd.in/ekzaZGD2
#Femtech is currently expected to grow to $103 billion by 2030. So why is it still so difficult for these founders to fundraise? Next week on October 2, HearstLab’s Venture Director Eastin Rossell will be joining a panel along with Abbie Strabala (True Wealth Ventures) and Rebecca M. Winkler (PMP) at The Wharton School’s Venture Lab to help University of Pennsylvania students hone their strategies for pitching and evaluating winning femtech, retail, and gender-focused products and services. We love seeing and supporting programs like the Venture Lab that are helping create a robust pipeline of next-level #entrepreneurs and #investors! Stay tuned for the recap 👀 P.S. While we have you, shout out to our HearstLab CEO/Wharton Alum network: Reham, Dana, & Shanel!
