We are so grateful to Children's Opportunity Group of Broward and Children's Services Council of Broward County whose combined funding helped make this special heart day happen. Our 2nd Annual Back-to-School Shopping Spree was attended by over 30 Heart Gallery youth who each received $500 gift cards to shop for their own back-to-school clothes and shoes at the The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale who donated event space for the big day. Foster youth do not often have the opportunity to shop for themselves and pick out their favorite clothes to kick off the year with confidence and style. Instead, they may be handed a pair of shoes, some clothes, and a backpack that they didn't get to pick themselves. This program gives our youth the dignity they deserve. During this day they also learn valuable life skills when it comes to money management. Our volunteer personal shoppers helped them look through the sales in their favorite stores and get the most out of their gift card. Dillard's even gave our youth a special 15% discount just for them! They returned with countless bags and showed off their new shoes and clothes to each other at the end of the day. We also want to thank our in-kind partners, Michael Murphy Photographic Studios for capturing their new looks and Press and Grind Cafe for a delicious lunch! This past Saturday, we held our first annual Family Fun Day and Resource Fair, funded by the Community Foundation of Broward. On this special day, 31 local direct service providers came together to share vital resources with adoptive families in Broward County. With over 100 attendees between adoptive parents and youth, families had the chance to meet with providers face to face and learn about new services to strengthen their families. The day was filled with education and fun while their kids ran around to play vendor activities, get their faces painted, and dance with the DJ.
