Happy World Occupational Therapy Day! The theme for this year is, “Occupational Therapy for All.” The theme reflects the important role of the profession in facilitating the ability of individuals, communities, and populations to participate in the activities that they want, need, or are expected to do in their daily lives. Occupational therapy is a vital part of hospice. This form of therapy is used to help those recovering from physical or mental illnesses. We work to encourage rehabilitation to help with certain activities that are necessary for daily life. OTs play a crucial role in the hospice care team. They help identify significant life roles and activities that provide some meaning to patients. They’ll talk to the patient to find out what they want to accomplish and what’s most important to them. They also consider the available support systems and resources they may have to achieve those goals. Thank you, Occupational Therapist, for all the hard work that you do each day!

During Spiritual Care Week, we celebrate the chaplains who serve not only as spiritual guides but also as counselors, listeners, and compassionate companions. Their roles extend far beyond religious care, as they wear many hats to provide support wherever it’s needed most. Meet Dr HE Cardin (Bubba) who has served as a Chaplain & Bereavement Coordinator with Hearth Hospice Since May 2017 (Seven Years). Dr Cardin has brought his collective years of ministry (50+), continuing to serve PTs, families, and staff. Beyond the normal requirements for his discipline (Spiritual Care), Dr Cardin is very involved with ongoing Community Outreach efforts sharing music in close to 30 assisted living facilities for the past seven years. Serving in the Southern Appalachian area, Dr Cardin shares music and singing focused on the average demographic using Banjo & Guitar. #SpiritualCareWeek #MoreThanReligion #ManyHatsOfCare #OurCareFamily

During Spiritual Care Week, we celebrate the chaplains who serve not only as spiritual guides but also as counselors, listeners, and compassionate companions. Their roles extend far beyond religious care, as they wear many hats to provide support wherever it’s needed most. Meet Nathan from our Chattanooga team. He shares, “I have had the opportunity to serve as a Hospice Chaplain for the last 8 years. The reason why I chose Hospice Chaplaincy is because it gives me the ability to walk with individuals during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Although Chaplaincy can be very challenging it is still an honor to be of service to patients, their families, and my fellow colleagues in this field.” #SpiritualCareWeek #MoreThanReligion #ManyHatsOfCare #OurCareFamily

It was an absolute honor for Hearth Hospice to award a Quilt of Valor quilt to Airman Second Class Mr. Calbaugh, of the United States Air Force. While serving in Okinawa, Japan Mr. Calbaugh trained in morse code and served as a radio operator with top secret security clearance from 1954-1957. He received medals for good conduct, marksman, and for serving overseas. We are very thankful Mr. Calbaugh’s wife of 65 years, Christine and their son, Marty was present to witness this great honor. He told us when he got off the bus when he got back home from his time of service there was no one there to welcome him home. He commented how this presentation brought up so many memories of that time but today we brought a smile to his face and said we made up for that sad lonely day. As part of awarding a quilt to a veteran, we always welcome them home. Mr. Calbaugh said after all those years he was finally welcomed back home! Look at his smile! His quilt was presented by Bridgett - Volunteer Coordinator, Amy - Social Worker, Robin - Nurse, Vickie - HHA, Tristan – Liaison , and Kelley - Volunteer #WeHonorVeterans #FeelGoodFriday #OurCareFamily #WelcomeThemHome #USAirForce #Veteran

During Spiritual Care Week, we celebrate the chaplains who serve not only as spiritual guides but also as counselors, listeners, and compassionate companions. Their roles extend far beyond religious care, as they wear many hats to provide support wherever it’s needed most. Meet Chaplain David from our Cleveland office. He shares, "I had been a Youth Pastor and Pastor up in Michigan for 39 years. 5 years ago my wife and I retired from Pastoral ministry to come to Cleveland, TN to be closer to our children and especially our grandchildren so we could be a part of their lives before they grew up much more. I did not have a job waiting for me. I just came down with faith in God that He would supply the right place for me to continue in ministry. I don’t have enough space here to tell how God opened up the avenue to come work for Hearth as a Hospice Chaplain, but it definitely was God ordering my steps. I have now been a Chaplain going on 5 years and don’t see myself slowing down any time soon. Love my “job” and love the people I get to work with and the patients and families I get to serve!" #SpiritualCareWeek #MoreThanReligion #ManyHatsOfCare #OurCareFamily

Tristian, our Liaison, joined Bridgett, the Volunteer Coordinator, and Kelley, one of our volunteers, at the Dayton Chamber of Commerce Meet & Greet luncheon yesterday. We love connecting with fellow businesses, meeting new faces, making new friends, and spreading the word about Hearth Hospice. Judging from the photos, it's clear that we never fail to have a blast whenever Kelley gets in on the action! #OurCareFamily

During Spiritual Care Week, we celebrate the chaplains who serve not only as spiritual guides but also as counselors, listeners, and compassionate companions. Their roles extend far beyond religious care, as they wear many hats to provide support wherever it’s needed most. Meet Chaplain Kelly from our Chattanooga office. She shares, "During my CPE residency, I found myself overcome with the sense of the sacred every time I walked into an EOL call. This was my personal invitation to explore this phenomenon more deeply - thus my partnership with Hospice as a Chaplain. It has always been my life focus to be one that purposely walks with others through life's most difficult times. I have been fortunate to do so for the past 33 years both as a pastoral staff within the Christian Church and as a Families Chaplain at the largest homeless shelter on Skid Row in Los Angeles. I find it an honor to enter those sacred spaces with patients & families, providing presence, comfort, and support, in the midst of Thin Spaces!" #SpiritualCareWeek #MoreThanReligion #ManyHatsOfCare #OurCareFamily
